A#1 Air and Appliance is located in CARROLLTON, TX and would like to provide you with reasons you should have your heater checked this fall before the winter season.

Why You Should Have Your Heater Checked

You've probably heard that it's important to get your  heater "serviced" once a year by a qualified HVAC company.  You may have thought that the typical $99 cost to have your furnace looked at, tuned up and checked was simply a waste of money.

It's not. In fact, it could actually be a matter of life and death. If your unit is older (more than 20 or 30 years old), it could very easily have a crack or hole in the heat exchanger. Unfortunately, the unit won't provide any hints that something is wrong; there will be no noise, no alarm, nothing. Instead, your ducts will likely carry carbon monoxide into your home. Depending on the location of the hole or crack, its size and the amount you use your heater, this poisoning could make you ill or kill you.  (A carbon monoxide detector is a great idea, of course.)

If you have gas heaters, always look out for signs that should alert you to problems with the heater. Warning signs to look out for include: a smell of gas from the appliance, difficulty in establishing a flame or unusual delays in flame ignition, an unusual flame pattern or a flame that has not fully established over whole extent of the burner, blockage of burner ports or evidence of corrosion around burner ports, any alteration in the position of the artificial logs or the burner bed, or soot coming from the appliance or appearing on the inside of glass panels.

If you identify any of these, do not to use the heater, and have it serviced by a qualified service technician as soon as possible. An A#1 techinician will make sure your cabinet heater is safe to use and will check for things such as leaks, worn hoses, safe ignition and that fittings are in good working order.

It is also a good time to check gas & electrical appliances such as gas stoves, hot water heaters, electric blankets, etc. As with gas appliances, whenever a licensed electrical worker is working in your home, ask if they can check to see if your electrical appliances, equipment and installations are safe.

Fall is a great time to have your heater serviced, because it's always better to find out the results when you don't yet need the heat. Flower Mound heating customers, call A#1 Air and Appliance at 972-242-COOL to ensure your family's safety and prepare your heating unit for the winter months
