Dallas-Fort Worth Apartment Communities Lower Rents From 2008 To 2009

As a result, rental rates fell in Fort Worth 2.1 percent in September from a year ago, and 4.1 percent in the Dallas area. According to a new MPF Research survey, the declining occupancy has resulted in sizeable rent cuts from 2008. They reported that in the third quarter of 2009, more apartments were rented than in the past year. It was the first time in a year that there were more people moving in to an apartment community than out. MPF Research announced that today, 8,260 fewer apartments are rented than a year ago. Although it is typical to see more apartments leased in the third quarter of the year, this was not to be the case this year. 
   In the North Texas area, apartment occupancy is 89.8 percent. This is down 3.6 percentage points from a year ago. Many new apartment communities are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, and it appears that the apartment market will not improve any time soon. With the demand for apartment leaseing way down, and the season being typically the slowest of the year, apartment dwellers are most likely in for great rent reductions.
