The Bridge Breast Network bridging barriers in fighting breast cancer!

The New England Journal of Medicine in July 1993 stated, "Women without private health care insurance who have breast cancer receive this diagnosis later and die sooner than privately insured women with breast cancer."

By linking low income, uninsured individuals to diagnostic and breast cancer treatment, The Bridge Breast Network in Dallas, Texas, exists to save lives and bridge the barriers that many face in finding and fighting breast cancer.

The bridge over breast cancer…

The concept for The Bridge Breast Network was born in 1992 to serve as the link between these women and the life-saving care they so desperately need. The idea was nurtured by a group of breast cancer survivors who met in the office of Sally Knox, M.D., a breast specialist at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

"We started small, but patients kept coming in the door every day. As The Bridge has grown, it has served as a model for other communities in accessing care. As we look ahead 10 years, I hope The Bridge will continue making it possible for the next generations of women to get the care they need." Sally Knox, M.D.

Women without a bridge

Uninsured women in the North Texas community can’t afford to fight breast cancer. But, they can’t afford not to.  Status or circumstance shouldn’t be a factor in a woman’s fight against breast cancer. Cancer doesn’t care whether a woman is Asian or Caucasian, 16 or 60, insured or not. The care shouldn’t discriminate either.

The Bridge serves uninsured and underinsured women in 16 counties in the DFW area. In the past decade, The Bridge has served over 78,000 North Texas women and connected more than 10,000 with medical treatment.

Crossing the divide

Only through the help of volunteers and generous donations from the North Texas community is The Bridge able to carry out this vital mission. For every dollar donated, Bridge clients receive nearly 10 times that amount in medical care.

Over 235 physicians in the metroplex have graciously volunteered their professional services and 49 medical facilities have greatly reduced their fees to make such a large discount possible. Your tax-deductible donation goes toward lifesaving evaluations and treatment, such as biopsies, medication, and chemotherapy.

The mission…

The Bridge Breast Network offers dignity, respect and support through:

  • Preservation of the client’s privacy
  • Timely referrals to the best medical treatment available
  • Connection to community resources and services

The Bridge Breast Network achieves its goals through:

  • The generosity of our donors
  • The dedication of medical providers, volunteers and staff
  • Commitment to our mission

Build a bridge, save a life!

Art for the Bridge raises money for The Bridge Breast Network, a non-profit, which links uninsured and underserved individuals to life-saving breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. In 2007, Art for the Bridge's Art Auction raised and donated $100,000 to The Bridge Breast Network. A $100,000 donation to the Bridge will provide $1,000,000 of breast cancer services and treatments by combining financial contributions with an effective network of medial services and facility donations.
