Baby teething is painful for baby and worrisome for mommy.  Here are some tips to help you both feel better.

Baby teething can begin around 6 months when her primary teeth begin making their way through the gum line and cause her much discomfort.

Signs of a Teething Baby:

  • Streams of drool collect in puddles
  • Biting hard, and then crying when biting
  • Fussiness
  • Ear pulling
  • Fever and diarrhea (Peditricians generally call this coincidence, but most mothers will tell you their babies had fever and diarrhea whiles teething.)

Here are some remedies to ease the pain your little one is having:

Teething Rings- Teething rings are old teething remedy used to comfort baby. Many mothers prefer this over any other teething cure. Refrigerating the teething ring can provide additional relief.

Food- A frozen banana can be an alternative for a baby that doesn't want their teething ring. At the grocery store, you can purchase a baby teething product that has a net to securely hold food so baby can munch on frozen or cold pieces of fruit without the risk of choking.

Teething Gel- This method is somewhat a last resort when nothing can comfort your infant. It should only be given after consulting with her pediatrician. Some teething gels contain a mild soother that acts as a painkiller. Many teething gels also contain mild antiseptics that kill a variety of bacteria and fungi that might infect sore or broken skin in the mouth. Teething gel is applied by gently rubbing the gel directly onto the gums.

Frozen washcloth- Just wet it down and place it in the freezer. It has all the benefits of the teething ring, but it's softer for more sensitive babies.
Clove oil- Mix a few drops with 2 tablespoons of safe, edible oil and rub into baby's gums. The rubbing action will soothe as well.

Vanilla- Take pure vanilla and rub it on her gums, make sure that it isn't imitation vanilla, because that contains a large amount of alcohol in it. Again, the rubbing action will help soothe the pain she is feeling.

If your baby is particularly fussy, try a relaxing baby bath. A baby bath with Baby Magic's Lavender & Chamomile Calming Baby Bath, which has pure extracts, can calm and soothe your teething baby.  An after she settles down for a nap, luxuriate in your own bath.
