Baby lotion can help with diaper rashes, along with these other simple steps.

As most new moms know, diaper rash can cause chaos in a household. From dealing with a fussy infant to worrying about your little one being in pain, you're likely to be a wreck when that familiar red rash appears. If you want to make things easier on you and on baby, it's a good idea to learn as much you can about treating diaper rash. By taking the right steps and using the right baby products, such as baby lotion, you can reduce the effects of your infant's symptoms and make him or her a lot more comfortable.

Keeping Baby's Skin Dry
When an infant has diaper rash, it will be important for you to keep his or her diaper area as dry as possible. That means that you'll need to check baby's diaper every few hours to see if he or she needs a changing. If you leave a dirty and wet diaper on your child for too long, this is only going to make the symptoms worse. Make sure that you clean your child carefully after each changing, applying baby lotion or diaper rash ointment where necessary, but don't let baby stay wet for too long.

Washing the Diaper Area
If leaving your child's diaper area to dry is not enough to help with the symptoms of diaper rash, then you may want to wash the area with warm water. Use a soft cloth and gently get baby's skin clean with the warm water. If you can avoid using any kind of soap, this is a good idea, as soap could irritate your baby's skin even further and cause more discomfort. After your child's diaper area has been washed, it may be a good idea for you to let baby's bottom dry out. You may want to skip your normal routine of baby lotion and powder, if the rash is bad, and just let baby go without a diaper for a while.

Other Tips to Counter Symptoms
If your infant's rash is not gone within a few days, you may want to try having him or her sit in a warm bath for about 10 minutes, three times a day. This can often provide a lot of comfort for babies, especially when they have really bad diaper rashes. You may want to also visit your pediatrician and ask for some help treating the symptoms. Your pediatrician may advise you not to use baby lotion or baby powder for a while and just to let your child go without diapers for a while, or he or she may prescribe a special ointment for baby.
