Aids Foundation Houston Inc. - Pediatric Teen Programs
According to the statement found on the Aids Foundation Houston web site, the goal of the organization is to "create positive social impact through the innovative management of HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses." AFH provides a number of programs specifically for young people under the umbrella of 'Pediatric/Teen Programs'. According to the most recent information posted on the AFH site (http://www.aidshelp.org), these programs include, but are not limited to:
Camp Hope
Camp Hope was launched in July of 1996. Camp HOPE was the premier summer camp specifically for kids ages 7-15 with HIV or AIDS in Texas. The camp has grown from a 3 day program to a weeklong program. Camp HOPE has helped over 1000 participants in the last ten years.
International Camps
In 2005, AFH started a new Camp HOPE program in Africa entitled Tsholofelo. The organization also started two new camp programs in Romania.
Teen Leadership Forum
Teen Leadership Forum began in 2006. The program helps teens age 15 and above to make a smooth transition from adolescence to adulthood. This program addresses a wide variety of topics ranging from dating and disclosure to treatment issues, substance abuse, educational options, career development and much more.
The Red Ribbon Toy Drive
This program, started in 1995 has distributed more than 25,000 toys to children affected by HIV or AIDS. The program works closely with local businesses and organizations, who serve as drop spots for toys.
Project VIBE
Positive VIBE targets HIV positive youth. The age range for this program is 13 to 24. The program offers youth in primary care access to services such as case management, transportation and support groups.
