Actinic Keratoses is a premalignant condition of thick, scaly, or crusty patches of skin and is more common in fair-skinned people, especially those who are frequently exposed to the sun. It is usually accompanied by solar-damage and since some of these pre-cancers progress to squamous cell carcinoma, they should be treated.
When skin is constantly exposed to the sun, thick, scaly, or crusty bumps appear. The scaly or crusty part of the bump is usually very dry and rough. The growths start out as flat scaly area.  Later, they grow into a tough wart-like area.

Actinic Keratoses sites commonly ranges between 2 and 6 millimeters in size, and can be dark or light, tan, pink, red, a combination of all these, or have the same pigment as the surrounding skin. It can appear on any sun-exposed area, such as the face, ears, neck, chest, backs of hands, forearms, or lips.

Dr. Malouf and associates are very experienced in many types of aesthetic and dermatologic procedures that will meet all levels of your concerns in terms of safety, price, comfort, and effectiveness. With two offices in Fort Worth and a brand new facility in Dallas, there is plenty of opportunity for you to take advantage of exceptional services in your area.

Dr. Malouf specializes in a highly effective technique for the removal of Actinic Keratoses, called Mohs surgery.  This surgery differs from other Actinic Keratoses treatments in that it permits the immediate and complete microscopic examination of the removed cancerous tissue, so that all roots and extensions of the cancer can be destroyed. Typically, Mohs surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure in the physician's office. The patient is awake during the entire procedure and discomfort is usually minimal and no greater than it would be for more routine skin cancer surgeries.

The Center for Skin and Cosmetic Dermatology is Dallas’s premier cosmetic and dermatologic services office, offering the best state-of-the-art procedures in cosmetic surgery and non-surgical treatments for the face and body.  Actinic Keratoses is only one of the many conditions for which Dr. Peter Malouf offers traditional and alternative treatments.  If you are currently seeking treatment in Dallas, call or stop by today to learn about the variety of options that are available.  Dr. Malouf strives to make the Center for Skin the most cutting edge dermatologic services in North Texas.
