How Can You Get Rory Sabbatini to Buy You a Beer? Check Out My Interview ...

Posted by Colonial Golf Girl in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX on May 15, 2008

Rory Sabbatini is the defending champ of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial … and despite his funny accent, he’s a definite crowd favorite.  Rory kindly agreed to answer a few questions ...

1.  You have your own fans called Rowdy Roadies … they even wore red “Italian Stallion” t-shirts when you won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial last year.  What is your responsibility to your fan club?  Do you have to buy them beer?  Do you let them select an iron on an approach shot?

Rory:  Most of my Rowdy Roadies are family and close friends so they usually hang out after a round and we will go eat or have a beer.  It's great because they really know how to celebrate after a good round or they know how to help pick me up after a bad one.

2.  Much hullabaloo was made when you said back in 2007, Tiger is “more beatable than ever.”  Why aren’t players allowed to say that?

Rory:   Next question please....

3.  I saw a picture of you playing in a Tour event … you were wearing a rather large skull belt buckle.  It appeared bejeweled and about six inches wide … did it interfere with your swing?

Rory:  None of my beltbuckles interfere with my game at all...actually they are a diversionary tactic to throw off my competitors.

4.  What’s the funniest thing your caddie has ever said to you on the course?

Rory:  My caddy and I try to keep it as light as we can.  We tell lots of jokes...It drives my wife nuts because she then has to listen to me repeat them over and over...We are such jokesters...If your playing in my group you usually need to have thick skin and not take things too seriously. If I am teasing you, it usually means I like you.

5.  You’ve already committed to playing the Colonial this year … is it difficult to repeat a title on the same course?  If so, why?

Rory:  It's just hard to win on tour, Period...Of course there is a little pressure to repeat...especially when you win somewhere as prestigious as Colonial.  To win on tour you have to play well and get a little lucky.  I am playing well and just hope it's my week!

Rory, thank you for your time ... best of luck next week and see you soon,

Kelly
