Day 2: Search for Stogies

Posted by Colonial Golf Girl in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX on May 23, 2008

Somewhere hidden on the grounds of the Colonial Country Club is an elusive cigar stand.

Ace and I went in search of this kiosk while scouting the grounds for some of the prime hookup locations on the lynx. After all, there are few things more relaxing than watching good golf, sitting on the carpet-like grass and puffing away on a stogie.

Stop 1: Champions Tent... The vendors inside the tent said there was a woman outside selling cigars by the front entrance to the exclusive Champions Tent. After enjoying the air conditioning inside briefly we asked the workers at the front of the tent if they were selling cigars. This is when the expedition began.

Stop 2: Stairs by Hogan's Statue... They said there was someone near the top of the stairs by the clubhouse that was selling cigarettes. We figured one tobacco product would put us in the right direction, but unfortunately, there were no cigars. Strike 2.

Stop 3:  Crowne Plaza Lounge... Nested next to the 10th fairway is the Crowne Plaza Lounge. At this point we can smell the aroma of a fresh Baccarat being lit up and we feel like the moment of discovery is upon us. Wrong... We were told there were some shops near 13 where someone was selling cigars though.

Stop 4: Tents at 15... While we did get to see the banner that people have signed for the soldiers overseas, there still was no luck with finding cigars. A couple people puffing away said they brought their cigars from home and last year they had a person selling by 13. Just an FYI, the 14/15 turn on the course is a great place to sit and hang out.

Stop 5: Hole 13... In theory, somebody is selling cigars out here. We  were unable to find the stand this afternoon, but our journey did give us a chance to see more of the back nine and catch a glimpse of several of the golfers who were playing through.

If you find the the cigar stand, let me know. Until then, happy hunting.
