Day 3: Inside the Ropes ... How Did They Get There?

Besides, the scorer and the standard bearer, you may have seen a couple of people tagging along behind each pairing of golfers.

Two years ago, the PGA Tour began placing Honorary Observers with each pairing.  At the first tee box, the two selected are introduced to the crowd, they get to meet and shake hands with the pros playing, and they get to walk behind the golfers during their entire round.

I caught up with Don and Garla, Dallas residents, who were walking with Mark Brooks and Steve Lowery.  Don is your basic fancy pants ... the General Counsel for Jani King, a PGA Tour sponsor.

They are assigned their players ... they must stay within an arm's length of the rope, and each hole has a designated side they must walk on (right or left).  They are not allowed to bring a camera, cell phone or bag ... they cannot ask for an autograph, or speak to a player unless spoken to first.

I was surprised because this sounds like the same rules I have for a date.  Oddly enough, I don't go on many second dates.
