Day 4: Phil vs Pamps ... News from the Front Nine

Rod Pampling finished (-3) under as they made the turn to the 10th tee box.  Let me be honest and say, Rod has a better drive, a better approach shot and better putting than Phil.

But if you've watched any of the Colonial ... you know that Phil earns his paycheck on the back nine.  After nine holes, Mickelson is two shots back, all alone in 2nd place.

That's your summary ... now for the people watching:

On the 6th hole, Phil hit a tree, scattering the gallery.  I've never heard anyone say this, but a guy who was somewhat near the errant ball, admitted he wanted to get hit.  When asked if he moved ... the guy said, "Yeah, toward the ball."  Congratulations to the Crowne Plaza commercials for changing that attitude.

Despite Pampling's two shot lead, Phil is getting the bulk of verbal support ... but Pampling does have one really loud fan.  Every time he's anywhere near, this guy yells:  Way to go Pamps!  (I'm not sure I knew that Pampling's nickname was Pamps.  What about Pampers?  That's cute)

We'll see what Mickelson can do on the back nine ... he's got two shots to make up.
