Botox has been in the news and on television ads, and while many of us are aware that Botox helps get rid of “wrinkles,” it is important to understand that Botox treats movement lines. Movement lines are the lines appear on your forehead and around your eyes as you smile or frown. As you relax your face, the lines soften and often disappear. But what can be done for those deep lines that don’t go away, like the ones from your nose to the corners of your mouth or the lines that allow your lipstick to bleed into the skin?
Restylane and Perlane are two of the dermal fillers that fight these problems. These gels are made of hyaluronic acid, a slippery substance found naturally in the joints and in other parts of the body. Over the next weeks, it just gets better as it draws moisture into it and “plumps” the area. Resytlane and Perlane differ slightly due to the size of the gel particles. Perlane has larger gel particles and is used for deeper wrinkles or folds. Restylane and Perlane both last approximately 6-8 months.
Radiesse is another dermal filler we offer at Daireds. It is different from Restylane and Perlane in that it is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a natural gel. Sounds like a mouthful, but basically these tiny microspheres form a kind of “scaffold” to support and stimulate the growth of your own collagen. Over time, theses microspheres break down and are naturally absorbed by your body but, in the meantime, Radiesse has been working to rebuild your skin’s foundation and restore a youthful look to your face. Radiesse typically lasts a year or more.
