Texas Pioneer Adventure | Dallas Arboretum Field Trip

Posted by Dallas Arboretum in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX on May 11, 2009

Integrate your social studies, science and language arts curriculum in the Texas Pioneer Adventure exhibit for field trips at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

This nationally award-winning, two-acre Texas Pioneer Adventure field trip exhibit will take your students back in time to see the land as the pioneers saw it. They will record data and experiences in their own explorer's journals as they explore a tepee, a real sod house and two settlers' cabins at the Gardens.

The Dallas Arboretum Texas Pioneer Adventure will challenge your students' imaginations and encourage them to consider creative, practical solutions to problems encountered by the Texas pioneers during the Dallas field trip. Students will also investigate native Texas plant gardens, a crop garden and go on a hunt in our Texas Pioneer Adventure kitchen botanical garden to discover plants used for medicine, food, clothing and even insect repellent!

Children's Education - Program Overview
The Arboretum's guided tours, self-instructing materials and educational programs provide hands-on experiences that make learning fun and meet the requirements of the TEKS for science education. In addition, these programs incorporate language arts, math, social studies and fine art components.

Because the Crow Pavilion's new classrooms allow the addition of deeper levels of science education to existing field trips, the Arboretum added two new teachers to its staff to research, write curricula for new field trips and teach new classes. The new programs will incorporate technology and help students investigate and understand more complex natural science concepts.
