If you're considering a career in graphic design, then you understand the importance of getting a  graphic design degree. After all, your future employers are going to want so form of accreditation, so you want to be able to show them that you are both dedicated and qualified. But more importantly than that, you also need to make sure you pick a program that meets your needs as well. Of course, you will want to look at the school's ranking on various lists and reviews---after all this is something that people will look at when considering you for a job. But what about the other features and traits of a graphic design college that don't show up on the rankings? For that, you will need to do some research on your own to find out which graphic design college is right for you. Here are a few things to look for:

1. Curriculum

Are you looking to use your degree to get mostly graphic design work? Then you want to make sure that your curriculum is maximized for courses in graphic design. Many graphic design colleges offer their graphic design courses only within the context of another general arts degree. If you want to really focus on graphic design in your career, you may want to look at a program with a separate graphic arts program.

2. Technology

The pace of technology often drives what kind of graphic design work is out there, and knowing how to use the most recent programs and techniques may make all the difference between you getting the job and not. This is why it is important, when looking at graphic design colleges, to find out the extent to which they invest in technology. Ideally, you want a school with a commitment to the latest programs and techniques.

3. Faculty
Remember, the faculty members at your design college will be the ones teaching you and mentoring you, so make sure they are the ones you want. Take some time to research each faculty member and look for ones with interests that match your own. Not only can this help you to pick out which graphic design school is right for you, it can even help you decide which courses to take once you enroll.

4. Job Placement Programs

Look for schools that have a strong record of career advising and good results in getting their graduates jobs. Ultimately, this is one of your goals in obtaining a graphic design degree, and you want to make sure that there is an infrastructure that can help you get not just jobs, but the jobs you want, as often and as early as possible.
