Ambit Energy In Texas, Competing In A Highly Competitive Market

 Texas electric consumers are facing some of the highest electric rates on record as natural gas demand rises and supply deminishes. This supply issue has caused electric rates in Texas to rise to a 3 year historical high. Hurricane Katrina caused a similar spike but now the issue has more to do with regular consumption of natural gas then an earthly catastrophe. Starting as of March 17 we have seen a small turn around as natural gas came down 2% mid afternoon and came down again towards the end of the trading day. Electric rates in Texas could be on there way down and Ambit Energy has done a good job of keeping up with the other competitive electric providers but they still are beat by a few other established electric providers.

To compare electric companies in Texas we will use Ambit Energy, Champion Energy and Startex Power. Right now Ambit Energy is advertising only month to month electric rate products on the power to choose site. They are anywhere from 13.5 cents to 9.9 cents kWh. In comparison Startex Power offers a month to month product at 9.3 cents kWh. Startex discloses the last 2 previous months on their variable rate so you can see how it peaks and dips with the market. Some Texas electric providers will not disclose exactly what their electric rate does on a month to month basis so you could find your electric rate rising superficially high for no reason at all. The good thing with Startex Power is the disclosure on their manage rate page. Champion Energy is advertising a 12 month fixed rate at 12.6 cents kWh with a $4.95 monthly service charge. Even after averaging in the service chareg most people will pay about 13 cents kWh for the term of their contract. This is actually much better then being on a variable rate. With a variable rate you get a teaser on the first month but then it goes up to around 13 - 16 cents kWh. By locking in on a fixed rate you will not have to worry about what your rate will do month to month. At the bottom of the page we have a page that describes the Champion Energy rate as well as a Promo Link so you get their lowest advertised rate. The Promo link will give you a lower electric rate then what they normally advertise. Ambit Energy has about mid range electric rates but as far as being the lowest cost provider in Texas they are not the ones. Give Startex or Champion Energy a try as they will be at the lower end of the spectrum right now.

Ambit Energy made history by surpassing an already succesful Texas electric MLM company called Ignite Energy. In fact many Ignite people jumped ship to come start up Ambit Energy. The companies both have quite a few old Excel sales reps and executives that have worked to start up a new MLM business to take advantage of the opportunities available through Texas deregulation. Affordable Energy is another MLM energy company based out of Houston Texas that is just beginning to compete with the sales forces of Ambit Energy and Ignite Energy. Only time will tell if Affordable Energy has what it takes to overtake these two already very large Texas electric providers.
