The Pell Grant is a foundational aspect of financial aid.  Pell Grants are a type of federal financial aid that does not have to be repaid by the student.  Pell Grants are generally awarded only to those seeking their first undergraduate degree.  In other words, Graduate students are generally not eligible for the Pell Grant.

There is no specific Pell Grant Application.  To qualify for the Pell Grant, one must fill out the FAFSA.  The FAFSA takes into account all kind of information to determine your Pell Grant eligibility.  Many people have a misconception that the Pell Grant is based solely on your income but this is not true.  Other factors such as number of people in your family, number of people attending college, as well as demonstrating financial need all play a part in receiving a Pell Grant.

It is also very important to make sure you meet all deadlines.  You must complete your FAFSA on time as well as meeting any state or school deadlines that apply.  The FAFSA may seem overwhelming at first but we are here to help walk you through it. The FAFSA is absolutely essential to receiving federal and school financial aid.
