Know Before You Show

From the feather-clad to bride’s maid bad,
it’s all here

February is the month of love, and as such, this month is filled with theatre outings like Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding or La Cage Aux Folles that will make your heart pitter-patter like a school girl touched by a drop of Zac Efron’s sweat. Whether you need to add a little light-hearted romance to rekindle your flame or just want to cruise the audience for Mr. Right Now, the perfect show is waiting. Oh yeah, and for those of you who count down the days until this lovey-dovey crap is over, there’s the harshness of Slaughterhouse 5 or the downward spiral of Love, Janis to take in. See, everybody wins.

Gay List DailyI Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change
Through Sunday, February 17

New York had Cats; Dallas has this show that has been running off and on since 2000. The good news is that this romantic musical comedy about the idiosyncrasies of relationships is still relevant today. Although, you may be more familiar with the gay version: I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Take Your Clothes Off.

Tickets: $30 to $35 (Valentine’s Day show is $50)

Gay List DailySlaughterhouse 5
February 7 - March 2

It’s certainly not the love shack, baby. Kurt Vonnegut’s classic novel about a man “unstuck in time” who experiences his life in a seemingly random order comes to the stage in this adaptation by Academy Award winner Eric Simonson.

Tickets: $20

Gay List DailyLa Cage Aux Folles
February 8 - 23

Remember those episodes of Maury where you had to guess who was the real girl and who was the drag queen? This is just like that, except with more marabou, bugle beads and musical numbers. Hint: if there’s a pronounced Adam’s Apple swinging about during the tap number (or anything else swinging for that matter), it’s probably a guy.

Gay List DailyTony n’ Tina’s Wedding
February 8 - March 9

Calling all Drama Queens, this show is for you as audience members get to play actual roles in the wedding. That’s right, that stage light you’re always trying to steal may find you after all. We just have two words of advice: under-eye concealer. The show includes champagne toast, wedding cake and pasta dinner, too.

Tickets: $65 to $85

Gay List DailyLove, Janis
February 19 - 24

Southern comfort straight from the bottle, a loud gravely voice and incessant ramblings about Bobby McGee; sounds like us stumbling out of JR’s at last call but it’s really a tribute to rowdy rocker icon Janis Joplin. Come on, Come on, Come on and take it … the time to buy some tickets, that is.

Tickets $15 to $67
