A question we frequently overhear in our community is what to look for when attempting to select an HVAC contractor.  Although price is obviously an important factor for most people, we strongly caution you from making the mistake of selecting a company based purely on cost.  While you may immediately pay a small amount for their services, often times the quality of service is so low that you will end up paying a much  larger sum in the long-term.

Just what should I specifically be looking for in an HVAC contractor?

That’s a great question!  Over the years of working within the HVAC industry, we have been able to gain a better discernment over what works and what does not for most people.  Here is a small but critical checklist of things to keep in mind:

1. Analyze the company’s history.  If possible, check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to see the number of customer complaints as well as how those complaints were resolved.
2. Never forget to ask for references.  Word of mouth is especially crucial in today’s society–do not fall victim to getting caught up in all the glitzy ads!
3. Verify the contractor is licensed.  Do not just take their word for it, have that person prove it by showing it to you.
4. Inquire about workers’ compensation insurance.  Employees carrying workers’ compensation insurance will prevent you from bearing the costs should a worker get injured on the job while on your property.
5. Does the company guarantee their work?  Will they stand by their service or run away from it?  A good company will ensure the job gets done right!
6. Make sure you know who is in charge and what specific work is to be expected.  This will prevent any unnecessary surprises and, consequently, unexpected costs.
