Weatherford furnace repair company Glenn-Aire shares home heating tips for the holidays.
The holidays always present a great opportunity to spend time with family and enjoy each other's company. However, most of the time will likely be spent indoors due to the cooler weather, and we all know how expensive it can be to run the heater during December and January. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to help decrease the energy costs, if even by a little.
First, be sure to change out your air filter before expecting to run the heater for a prolonged period of time. Changing out the filter will not only decrease operating costs but will give you the added benefit of increased air quality.
Second, if you have not already done so within the last 6 months, then we recommend having a system tuneup performed. This will ensure your heater is operating as best as possible and that it is free of any mechanical issues.
Third, consider lowering your thermostat to anywhere between 66°F and 68°F. The lower your can set it while still remaining comfortable, the more money you will save each month.
Fourth, make use of a programmable thermostat. This technology will automatically adjust your home temperature at set intervals allowing you to leave home knowing that your heater isn't running while no one is present.
