Exploring Theocracy's Demise

Posted by Green Stone of Healing(R) Series in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX on Aug 13, 2007

Self-acceptance while a member of any despised and persecuted group is a major theme of the Green Stone of Healing™ series. All of the protagonists as well as important secondary characters confront the issues of self-love for varying reasons and respond in differing ways.

Over several generations of strong female protagonists, the series explores how state sanction for exclusionary religious practices leads to the complete destruction of an island nation called Azgard and much of the rest of the world.

Death at the hands of the state-sanctioned priesthood easily could be the penalty for Helen Andros, the first-generation heroine whose tale begins in The Vision—Book One.

Helen’s mother was a member of the conquered and subordinate Turanians. Her formerly unknown father turns out to be one of the highest-ranking Toltecs, the dominant race in the island nation of Azgard. The state religion bans interracial relationships or marriages.

Helen’s half-breed heritage and lowly status as an illegitimate child make her a complete outcast in her world.

Meanwhile, her best friend from medical school, Lord Matthew Shinar, and her second cousin, Lord Justin Atlas, face their own set of dangers. In Azgard, death is the penalty merely for being homosexual.

After Helen meets Lord Justin and gets to know him, she urges him to declare and act on his lifelong secret love for Lord Matthew, even after a marriage between her and Lord Justin has been proposed for political reasons. Helen is certain that her dear friend, Lord Matthew, returns her kinsman’s feelings, and she wants them to have a chance of happiness together.

Throughout the series, Helen and her descendents use their green gem to offer a healing, inclusive alternative to a government that persectutes those who do not look like or share the religious beliefs of its top leaders..
