How to Get a Pell Grant

A Pell grant for psychology students can help to alleviate the financial burden of higher education. The Pell grant program is a federal grant program in which the money does not have to be repaid after graduation. Grants are mainly available to low-income students who demonstrate a substantial financial need. 

Argosy University works with students to obtain Pell grants for undergraduate psychology programs.  A minimum of four years of college education is essential to the training of anyone who wants to work in the field of psychology.

To apply for a Pell grant, a student can submit a Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA). This can be done by submitting a paper application available from a college’s financial aid office through the mail or by submitting an application online through the official FAFSA website. The FAFSA application must be entirely filled out and will require personal information such as a social security number, driver’s license number and income tax information.

This application will be used at a college’s financial office to determine a student’s eligibility for the Pell grant, as well as other grant and scholarship money. Once the application has been submitted, the student will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), which will detail the student’s eligibility for financial aid, as well as the student’s expected family contribution (EFC).

Based on the EFC, the cost of attendance and the enrollment status of the student, the government will determine how much grant money is awarded. Most grants are awarded to low-income families. 57 percent of the money is awarded to families with annual incomes of $20,000 or less.

Pell grant money that is awarded to a student can be used to pay for the tuition of psychology classes or other classes. Pell grant funds may also be used for other costs associated with higher education such as textbooks, housing, notebooks, pens and other basic school supplies. Most grants that are awarded to undergraduate students range from $400 to $5000 per year. 

Taking out loans and saving for college can be costly and expensive, but Pell grants offer students a chance to attend school without worrying about what happens after graduation, such as making student loan payments.
