Forensic Psychology at Argosy University

Argosy’s Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology online program is geared towards individuals who have experience or an interest in law enforcement, criminal justice, psychology or social work. This masters program at Argosy prepares students to apply counseling, neuropsychology and other skills in the areas of criminal justice and civil law. Argosy’s program provides students with the flexibility and freedom to pursue their degrees at their own pace by studying when it fits their schedule. 

This Master of Arts program offered by Argosy requires a student to take 36 credit hours which average out to one or two classes per session. The program sessions lasts 7 ½ weeks. Most students graduate from Argosy University within one to two years based upon enrolling in one to two classes per session.

The Role of Forensic Psychologists

Forensic psychologists actively participate in the criminal justice system. These psychologists assist law enforcement personnel by providing such psychological services as assessment, intervention and consultation. Forensic psychologists study crime from a psychological perspective to determine what is fair and just. Often these professionals work directly with the police and court systems. They assess the mental states of individuals who have committed crimes and advise criminal justice professionals accordingly.

Employment Outlook for Forensic Psychologists

Experts state that jobs for psychologists are expected to grow. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for psychologists is expected to grow 12 percent by 2018. Job growth for forensic psychologists, in particular, is expected to grow faster than average. 

With projections for growth at 15 percent by 2016, forensics is considered to be one of the fastest growing disciplines of the psychology profession.Payscale.com reports that forensic psychologists with one to four years of practical experience generally earn $40,000 to $70,000. Salaries are based upon the employer and on if the position is located in a major city or a rural area.
