Web Resources for Psychology Students

Pursuing a degree in psychology can be challenging. Psychology students must master statistics, research methods and theory. This can be quite a daunting feat. Thankfully, there are many helpful web resources that can assist psychology students in their studies. 

A great place to start is the American Psychological Association website, which can be found at www.apa.org. The APA website provides links to news, research, publications and career opportunities. It also features a psychology help center that covers special topics related to psychology. The APA website has a link to the APA style guide online, which is essential for writing thesis papers and articles.

Another excellent web resource is the Encyclopedia of Psychology, which can be found at www.psychology.org. The Encyclopedia of Psychology is a vast directory of psychology related websites. It is broken down by subject matter and can even be translated into several different languages. This website’s interface also allows its users to add psychology related links to the database.

Websites are not the only online resource available for psychology students. There are also many iPhone apps that are helpful for students studying psychology. About.com has an extensive directory of iPhone apps for psychology students. This listing gives a short description and pricing for each app featured. 

The Psych Files has a video that reviews their top ten psychology apps. Their list includes therapy apps and apps that show 3D views of the brain. The Psych Files has its own weekly podcast that discusses a wide range of topics related to psychology. 

Podcasts are another helpful resource for  psychology students. Once again, About.com is a good starting point. They have a collection of psychology podcasts broken down by subject matter. All-About-Psychology.com offers a list of what they consider to be the very best psychology podcasts.

The resources available to psychology students today extend far beyond just text books. Students can use their computers, mobile phones or mp3 players to assist in their study of psychology.  If students take advantage of the various online resources available, they will have everything they need to succeed in their pursuit of a degree in psychology.
