How to Find the Best SEO Company for your Dallas Small Business

As my team and I work daily on strategic search engine optimization for our clients’ websites, I’ve learned a lot as I get to know their company, industry, and how they became our client in the first place.  More often than not, unfortunately, IPG is not the first company that the client hired to handle their SEO.  Let’s face it.  There are some shady SEO companies out there.  Based on the invaluable education that I’ve received from our clients, techs, and peer forums, here are a few tips to consider when you’re ready to boost your company’s sales through SEO for your website:

  • Certainly, your first search method for finding a reliable SEO company is to ask around.  Referrals from other companies with whom you do business, or even from companies where you have noticed have a strong web presence within their industry are reliable sources.  Great rankings within search engines are no accident, and the SEO firms who made it happen obviously know what they’re doing.
  • An SEO company that promises instant, immediate results is a definite red flag, as well as the guarantee of a number one, two, or three ranking in search engines.  Even the Google Gods will tell you that there’s no guarantee.  This is true even for unique search terms such as “avocado shag carpet.”
  • Going the cheap route will eventually cost you more.  Paying pennies for professional SEO will leave you feeling scammed in the end; but at the same time, a big price tag doesn’t necessarily get you higher up in rankings.  Paying a higher price should mean receiving a higher quality service. A one-time set-up fee is standard, due to the significant amount of time taken to research keywords and phrases which are truly relevant to your site, in addition to strategically applying META tags with the code of each page of your site, and editing your content.  After this is accomplished, plan on a monthly fee from your SEO company, which goes toward refreshing or rearranging your content, META tags and keywords on a regular basis.
  • Ask a few simple questions about the SEO company’s strategy, such as if they use automated submissions or the number of search engines to which they will automatically submit your site.  If they use this sort of methodology, run in the opposite direction. Automated submissions can get you banned from search engines.
  • It sounds simple, but you’ll learn quite a bit about your potential SEO company by searching on the company name itself. If the company, its owner, or salesperson is a known scammer, you’ll most likely see a lot of information about it on the Web.  Keep your mind open though: a disgruntled customer doesn’t necessary equate to fraud; nor does a lack of negative publicity make for a company that is completely on the up and up.  Make sure to use the other arrows in your quiver to ensure that you are working with a firm of integrity.

When speaking to potential SEO companies, come prepared with logical questions, and trust your gut.  Ask yourself, “Is this the company that is going to help me get to the next level in my business?”
