It was the morning of April 18th in Dallas, Texas when the sound of hundreds of guitars began to rise from the heart of the Lone Star State. Over 300 exhibitors from across the country and around the world had arrived over the last three days. The most widely recognized manufacturers in the guitar world were in attendance and over 40 talented local and international musicians were scheduled to perform. The stage was set for a yearly event that has become the largest and most well know of it’s kind! The 31st Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival had come to town!
Produced by Jimmy Wallace Guitars, based in Garland, TX, The Dallas International Guitar Festival has become a benchmark event in the world of guitar traders, manufacturers, retailers and buyers. Over the last 31 years the festival has grown from an ambitious regional guitar show, to the grand festival event it is today! Guitar aficionados and enthusiasts alike flock to the event every year to see the newest and hottest products from dealers around the world as well as to examine vintage instruments from the hundreds of vendors that attend every year. The Dallas International Guitar Festival also welcomes yearly an average public crowd of over 20,000 people during its three day run. This multitude ranges from local families and musicians to international fans from over 15 different countries. Every year, visitors come from every state in the nation as well as from almost every continent around the world. The Dallas International Guitar Festival has truly become a globally recognized event!
Every year, the Festival draws the best and most well known manufacturers in the world. This year’s attendance included heavy hitters such as Gibson Guitars, Fender, Peavey, Paul Reed Smith (PRS), Taylor and Warrior among others. Each of these manufacturers brought their own unique style and attitude to the event. From Gibson Electric and Acoustic generated a great deal of buzz by showcasing extremely rare classic and vintage guitars while Peavey Amps display displayed the custom-chopper motorcycle built by Orange County Choppers and debuted the new Peavey original Limited Edition, All Wood Riffmaster Game Controllers for Red Octane’s Guitar Hero video game. Fender Custom even brought famed guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen to perform live and then sign autographs for the throngs of fans that grew up listening to his music. Paul Reed Smith himself was in attendance this year and even played live for the crowd throughout the show at PRS’s exclusive booth with artists including Bugs Henderson, David Grissom and Johnny Hiland. Other manufactures such as Yamaha brought instruments ranging from the most affordable guitars for beginners to high-dollar collectible guitars for the serious musician. Guitars, however, were not the only products that were available to the public at the festival. Amps, pedals, soundboards, instructional videos and DVD’s, music books, straps, cables, and almost anything else the guitarist would need or be interested in was available.
Aside from the major manufacturers, festival producer Jimmy Wallace Guitars drew very large crowds with their display of over 100 electric and acoustic guitars. Jimmy Wallace Guitars had instruments accommodating all price ranges, experience levels and personal preferences, but according to Jimmy Wallace himself, “The real stars of the show were the 1959 Gibson Les Pauls.” Jimmy Wallace Guitars has been known for years for selling premium 1959 Les Pauls Sun Bursts, Gold Editions, Lemon Bursts, R9s and Reissues. In fact, Jimmy Wallace Guitars has just received another shipment of brand new 1959 Les Paul Reissue guitars which are now on sale at JimmyWallaceGuitars.com.
In addition to being a guitar show, the Dallas International Guitar Festival is, as its name suggests, also a music festival. This year over 40 artists from around the country and around the world performed on the two massive outdoor stages and the indoor acoustic stage. The outdoor stages, sponsored by Peavey and Fender, hosted guitar greats including Yngwie Malmsteen, Rick Derringer, David Grissom, Jim Suhler, Andy Timmons, Johnny Hiland, Black Stone Cherry and the Kentucky Headhunters just to name a few. While these stages drew huge crowds over the three day event, the indoor Fuller’s Vintage acoustic stage gave visitors the opportunity to see guitar legends like Kim Simmonds, Rhett Butler and Doyle Dykes perform in a relatively small and personal venue. Another event that makes the Dallas International Guitar Festival a unique experience in the music world is the now legendary Saturday Night All Star Jam. Hosting all the festival’s performing musicians on one stage, the music went on late into the night Saturday filling the cool air with a truly one-of-a-kind blend of styles that can only be found at the Dallas International Guitar Festival.
Planning has already begun for next year’s 32nd Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival which will be held on April 17, 18 and 19 at Dallas Market Hall. More information will soon be available to the public at www.GuitarShow.com. Jimmy Wallace Guitars invite any and all parties interested in exhibiting to visit the afore mentioned website and register for booths early in order to secure prime locations. The Dallas International Guitar Festival is 31 years old and is still going strong and growing every year. Vendors, manufacturers, buyers, sellers, musicians and fans are all welcome at what has become a “Texas Tradition” and an international phenomenon!
