1.  Figure out what you would do for free.
The job search is the perfect time to reassess. Is it time to start a new career? Is it time to move to a different industry, go back to school, start your own business or work from home. This should be one of the most exciting times of your life. You are at the beginning of something new. Think about all the choices you have right now.
The best question you could ever ask yourself is, “What work would I do for free?” Be honest. Now, start working toward your answer and figure out how to get paid. Find a business that will let you seek your passion. If the business doesn’t exist, then create one.

The truth is you don’t want a job, you want a passion. How do you get a passion? Create an environment of opportunity and positive support and you will be amazed by what you can accomplish. After you build the foundation, you will start to care. We only care about something if we have responsibility or ownership. Guess what happens when you care? You start to have passion.

2. Create opportunity and positive support.
We all want the same things from our jobs: opportunity and positive support. Sometimes, we want different opportunities. We may want the opportunity to be creative; to be a leader; to help people; or to make more money. Then, we want someone to say, “Thank you” or “I appreciate you.”

When we don’t receive opportunity and positive support, we are not very happy. Figure out what kind of opportunity you want from your new job. Make sure your new employer understands what you need to be happy.

During your job search, you still need opportunities. If you want the opportunity to help people, think about volunteering. If you want the opportunity to be creative, start a blog. Find something that gives you the opportunity that will fuel your job search. Talk to your friends, past employers and clients. There are many ways to create opportunity; you just have to make the choice.

You still need positive support. Team up with other people who are also searching for a job. Find a mentor to help you. Reconnect with past colleagues, professors, clients, friends, employers, vendors, etc. Most importantly, give yourself positive support each day.

Hopefully, these tips will inspire you and relieve stress during the job search. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Find what works best for you. Most importantly, relax and have fun. Don’t let this process get the best of you and cause you to become further stressed out.  This will only create a negative outlook on your job search. Even when we are trying to find a very serious job doing very serious things for a very serious company, we can still have fun.
