Optimize SEO for your Website, 5 Key tips to Target Better Rankings on the First Page of Google and Yahoo Overture.

If you're a business owner with a website, today more than ever, maximizing your return on investment is critical.  Sadly, most business owners who have a website don't achieve their full potential. What I find even more amazing, is that when you talk with most site owners, they seem to be seem very complacent about it.  Now I visited with a Dentist in McKinney, TX. recently, and after a little conversation about his needing to maximize his website, he told me that the majority of his business thrived on referrals and using print ads, that his site was really established as just part of doing business.  I asked why?

His answer was typical, not enough time, wasn't familiar with SEO, auto- responders, video testimonials, etc…. After 30 more minutes of educating him on the potential business he was losing by ignoring his site, he finally started to understand.  The simple truth that every business owner can't ignore is that in order for your site to acquire and retain customers, you need to treat your site as seriously as you treat your business.  Can you appreciate that by designing your site into a 24 hour 7 days a week promotional billboard, it can help you achieve more business, more family or leisure time, and the ability to stay on top of the competition?

Here are 5 Key Tips on optimizing your website and increasing your SEO-

1.  Content is King
If you know anything about search engines, their main function is to always seek and find the best and most relevant results. This is why Google or Yahoo  regularly review the sites and the content on them, to make sure that every search result is ranked according to its worth.  Therefore, the first thing you should focus on is the content. The content needs to be consistent, informational, and relevant to your business, keyword rich, and always changing.  Content can be a lot of things (articles, white papers, testimonials, FAQ's, webinars, etc…)

2.  HTML
This is also an important step as it pertains to search engine optimization.  If the website developer knew what they were doing, then more than likely your site was set up in the HTML format.  If you're not sure, ask.  A valid HTML format of the web site is a very simple to do and it helps optimize the site. Sites with HTML format get found much more easily.

3. Use of keywords and keyword phrases
Keyword research is a must for optimizing any website.  You need to have keywords and keyword phrases on every page of your site.  In order for your content to be searched, certain words need to be dispersed through out the site.  There are many tools to assist you in determining key words and phrases that are searched the most.  Once you've found those words that are most relevant, insert them throughout your site. Also use key word or phrases in the title of each page as that will enable it to appear as a link in the search engine.

4.  Placement and usage of Keywords and phrases
You need to make sure that the keywords and phrases are used enough times in the content of the page. As a rule of thumb, keywords or keyword phrases should appear at least twice for every five hundred words in order to make it visible to the search engines. A word of caution, don't load your web pages up with too many keywords because the search engine Gods will frown on your site if it appears you're trying to cheat to increase your ranking.  So be careful, choose your placement wisely.

5. Video optimization for your site
It's already proven, that people on the net, watch video more than they read text.  Look at Youtube and you'll understand why.  Video allows you to personalize your site because you engage the viewer and help them understand your business and how you can help them solve a problem or fulfill a need.

The main goals of any website should be to create traffic, increase income, and retain loyal customers to keep coming back. Using these simple tips will make your website easier for search engines to read, increases your ranking on Google and Yahoo, and helps target prospective buyers in finding your site over that of your competition.

Now that you know how these tips can help maximize your site and SEO, you still need to have a professional web consultant implement these changes and maintain them for you.  The investment is minimal, doesn't require hiring new staff, nor will you have to give up time to make these changes effective.  By the way if you were thinking about going back to the original web designer, ask yourself one question, why wasn't this done before?  If it had been, then you'd be at the top of the 1st page of Google and dominating your area of business.
