Program Notes

The United Way campaign is now in full swing and we speak on their behalf at least four or five times a week- this is an excellent way for us to become acquainted with businesses in our area- this week we will be at The Travelers Insurance Company, Market Street( Frisco) and AT &T.

We will apply for re-funding from DSVP (Dallas Social venture Partners) tonight at 5:30. Last year DSVP funded our Children's Caseworker position.

797 volunteer hours were worked in the month of September.

Remember when a large group of Texas instruments toured last week? Well as a result they have decided to incorporate four drives for the Samaritan Inn into their United Way campaign, they will collect:  canned food, diapers and baby wipes, fresh fruit and produce and cleaning supplies!

Special thanks to Dr Rick Royston, chiropractor, who comes to the Inn every Tuesday to offer free adjustments to residents and staff.

The Multi Family Builders Council came for a tour of the Inn yesterday afternoon and then conducted their board meeting here. We regularly offer up our board room as another opportunity to acquaint people with our services.

We have new help in the kitchen-LeCordon Bleu, Institute of Culinary Arts will be sending their students to the Samaritan Inn to complete their practicums beginning next month.

Last week residents were given an opportunity to register to vote on site at the Inn and 40 people took advantage of this!

Gala News: Janet Warren, our silent auction coordinator, has asked me to share some of the wonderful items that we have received to whet your appetite for our big night- here are just a few examples: Escada handbags, Lucchese Boots, Deboulle Jewelry, Cooper Center Spa Package, Baccarat Chrystal , Original Art and much, much more!

We currently have a need for standard sized bed pillows- donations may be dropped off at any time, thank you!

Story of the Week

The Samaritan InnStory of the Week:
At our third annual Good Samaritan Awards gala we will have a table of Samaritan Inn graduates - all wonderful success stories who are now living independently within the community, thanks to their hard work and the support of our program. Half of the table are women and, of course, their major concern for the evening was the ever popular - what will I wear? Thanks to board member Nancie Poppema, that problem has been solved. Nancie donated several formal dresses and shoes and last Friday night I delivered them to one of our graduate's apartments where we had a try-on party. I wish you all could have been there to witness the sheer joy as everyone took a turn twirling and posing and everyone found THE perfect outfit. See for yourself- Friday October 17th at the Embassy Suites in Frisco.
Sincerely,

Lynne Sipiora
