Program Notes
There are many Good Samaritans in our community and one of them is Renee, owner of Renee's Lagniappe Hair Design in McKinney. When Renee hires a new stylist she tells them from the beginning that they will be expected to provide free haircuts to the residents of the Samaritan Inn- and they do, on a regular basis. This month Renee has asked her clients to bring a box of tissue for the Inn when they come for their appointment and has enlisted a local Boy Scout troop to help with the drive-Renee and people like her, are what make our program work and we are very grateful.

Poor Richards' restaurant in Plano will again provide Thanksgiving dinner for all of our residents. We are also putting together Thanksgiving food boxes for recent graduates of the Inn, as well as for people in need in the community.

Cadillac Pizza on the square in McKinney will host their first event to benefit the Inn on Sunday, November 9th. 100% of the ten dollar cover charge will come to us along with the proceeds from the live auction to be held in the afternoon. Enjoy great food and drink and live music-doors open at 11am.
November is National Homeless Awareness Month and we have a number of ways you can support the Samaritan during the week of the 10th:

Visit Johnny B of WKLAK as he does a remote broadcast in the Brookshire's parking lot (75 and Louisiana in McKinney) and simulates homelessness by "living" there for three days-November 11, 12, and 13

Griffins Jewelry located in the Brookshire's strip mall will be selling a cubic zirconia stone for 25.00 to benefit the Inn-if you purchase one; you will become eligible for a drawing for a one carat princess cut diamond!

JC's Burger House and Brookshire's grocery store are also planning promotions.

Chili's Restaurant (University Drive in McKinney) will donate proceeds of every dinner sold from 4pm until closing, to benefit the Inn. Bring a flyer to make sure the donation comes our way (click here for flyer)

Open House- learn more about the Samaritan Inn's program and take a tour of our facility on Saturday, November 15th beginning at 11am -children are encouraged to attend.

Sunday, November 16-read the first column, in a series, on the plight of the suburban homeless in the Metro section of the Dallas Morning News.

I will be out of the office from November 4-10, if you need assistance during that time please call Tracy Westhoff.

Story of the Week
The Samaritan InnWayne is 57 years old and came to the Inn on October 13th. Wayne and his wife of 30 years lived in a small house, in a middle class neighborhood in McKinney. Then Wayne's wife died suddenly and soon after, Wayne lost his job as a department store manager (after 25 years of employment) due to company downsizing. Wayne tried to find another job, but was not successful and eventually lost his house and his car. Wayne indicated at his intake appointment that his priority was finding employment. He meets regularly with our Vocational Counselor, but he is still having trouble-Wayne has a serious case of psoriasis and a non- functioning right arm. Wayne's caseworker told him that he would qualify for disability and is currently helping him navigate that process. In the mean time Wayne attends the Samaritan Inn's grief recovery group to help him deal with the loss of his wife and individual counseling sessions. Wayne is still looking for a job but until he is able to find one, he is committed to helping out at the Inn and assistes our maintenance department with a variety of projects.
Sincerely,
Lynne Sipiora
