Program Notes
We were pleased to welcome Representative Ken Paxton to the Inn this morning for a tour and visit. We had an opportunity to tell him about the people we see and some of their challenges.

An anonymous donor from Dallas Social Venture Partners offered us a matching grant last Friday, to be used to subsidize a marketing position for Samaritan
Inn-dustries, our truffle program. This has been a long time need for our social enterprise and we are thrilled to have an opportunity to meet it in 2009. Today the grant was matched!

Many businesses and offices are having holiday parties this year that benefit the Inn and we are grateful to all of them-others are coming up with unique ways to encourage their clients to donate. Advanced Comprehensive Medical, a chiropractic office, located at 832 W Spring Creek Pkwy., is offering free services to new or existing patients on Saturday, December 13th from 9am -1pm, if they bring a donation of canned goods for the Inn. For more information call (972) 424-4243.

Most interesting donation of the week: Fifty pounds of Kentucky Fried Chicken-finger lickin' good!

A generous grant from Discount Tire's 'Driven to Care' program was made to help our residents with their dental and vision needs.

Last Sunday's Christmas party hosted by Joni McCoy was a huge hit- our children had milk and cookies, made crafts and received a Christmas stocking and a new pair of shoes. Ducky Bobs, the company that provided tables and chairs for the party, also donated a pair of pajamas for every child who lives here.

We are still looking for volunteers to staff our kiosk at the new Watters Creek Mall in Allen- the kiosk has been donated to us for the month of December for the purpose of selling Samaritan Inn truffles. Volunteers will work two hour shifts and are needed everyday of the week. Interested? Please email Cheryl at: cspofford@thesamaritaninn.org.
Story of the Week

The Samaritan Inn
Laura, a 35 year old single Mom and her two children, ages 13 and 5, entered the Samaritan Inn on December 1st. They had been living in Plano, but Laura lost her job and then her car and finally was evicted from her apartment. Laura went to her church for assistance and they referred her to The Samaritan Inn. Laura's first concern was her children- they were both immediately enrolled in MISD and assigned a Big Brother/Big Sister from the community. After school care has also been set up with Club 360, so that Laura can begin looking for work. The children have already been engaged in many activities and parties at the Inn and Laura reports they are adjusting far better then she ever anticipated. "Maybe Christmas won't be so bad after all" she told us.
Sincerely,

Lynne Sipiora
