Program Notes
This week we will unveil 'The Brain' at the Samaritan Inn. That's the name we have given to our new high tech station that has been placed in the middle of our library. In the past, residents, prospective residents and visitors all gathered at the front desk, located just inside our building and the result was long lines, less then confidential conversations and occasionally mayhem. We have solved this problem by purchasing a beautiful and functional circular desk for the library-our Program Specialist staff will be stationed there and attend only to resident needs. Administrative staff will move to the front office and deal with visitors, tours groups, and volunteers- we think this change will make us far more efficient.

In 2009 the Samaritan Inn will have two major fundraisers that will fund 25% of our annual budget, please mark your calendar now so that you can join us:

Shooting Clay tournament, Dallas Gun Club, June 5th

The Good Samaritan Gala, Embassy Suites, October 17th

We are currently looking for sponsors for both events and encourage you to think about your business, or any other business contact you may have, that may want to become involved.

In 2009 we will also focus on cultivating the next generation of philanthropists and are currently preparing a 'Junior Samaritan' program for high school students. Students who participate will know that they are making a difference in their community; they will also be eligible for green
cord or community service hours, and a letter detailing their contributions to be used for college applications. If you would like more information please call Molly at 972 542 5302.
Story of the Week

The Samaritan Inn
Thomas, age 43, came to the Inn on January 6th.   He is a Texas native who had been living in Ohio.  When he lost his job there and was unable to find another, he decided it was time to come home. Thomas told his case worker that for the last 6 years he has been unable to keep a job and he believes it may be because he is depressed, he has experienced many hardships in his life.

The day after Thomas arrived he signed up for day labor jobs and has been working steadily since then, but he knows to support himself he must find a permanent job. Thomas has been set up to receive a mental health assessment and we are working on a referral for dental care. Over half of Thomas's teeth are decayed and must be extracted.

We believe once Thomas has his medical and dental problems resolved he will be in a far better place to find the full time permanent employment he needs. Thomas is hopeful too and tells us he feels as though he has finally started on the road to independence.
Sincerely,

Lynne Sipiora
