A safe computer is a Happy Computer
Every year driving to and from School is a bit of a challenge. I drive a Volvo so space is limited and I generally wait till the last minute. I inevitable have an over packed car with little organization. It’s a free for all, for months I can’t find this or that and I am never surprised to learn things got left behind.
One such year for one such drive, I poorly packed my laptop leaving it susceptible to the dangers of the move. Typically I try to take greater care of my two or three more valuable items, but I was in a hurry and wasn’t thinking. Everything was thrown into my car in a rush and I was on the road as quickly as possible. When I made it to Austin I was sure to unload my car expediently since they recommend that you never leave anything in your car anyone might be tempted to sell (I live in student apartments on Riverside and cars are broken into pretty regularly). Once everything was in my apartment I unpacked very slowly. I didn’t even set up my laptop, let alone open my computer, until two weeks later. Much to my dismay my beautiful essential notebook had taken quite a betting. The screen had a spider web like crack covering it nearly in full. I was devastated. I had been so careless.
The laptop had been my first college purchase, paid for by tearing movie tickets and cleaning theaters. It was a big purchase for me, understandably so. After shelling out about $2000 dollars for a new, school ready notebook I thought the extra $100 for a case was silly. It seemed excessive. Well it’s a blessing that I didn’t think an extended warranty was a waste.
The idiot proof warranty covered the damages in full, even though the repair would have cost nearly the same as the original purchase and certainly more than the computer was worth at that point. So I learned from my lapse in judgment and wised up a bit. I have since bought an extremely durable case that my computer always travels in.
And it got me to thinking; surely I can’t be the only one who acknowledges the importance of a good laptop covers. So I decided to reference the web, I was interested to see how many hits websites that carry computer cases are getting. (These numbers are the overall searches predicted by Wordtracker based off of a number of the most popular search engines.)
Those are pretty impressive numbers, obviously I am not alone in my quest to protect and preserve my laptop computer. It seems that some websites that carry specialize in cases don’t limit their casing abilities to purely the computer industry, but also offer various custom cases and transport cases. Obviously they think casing your tangibles is important too.
