Bird Watching Binnoculars-NightVision, Swarovski

Opening my eyes to new ideas

I am going to Austin and San Antonio for a few days to catch up with my old roommates and to spend some time outdoors.  The four of us will be meeting up and spending the weekend celebrating our last bit of freedom together before the fall.  This trip is supposed to be the first of many to keep us in each others’ lives and to help us bridge the physical distance that will separate us from this fall on.

As part of the whole experience we decided to divide up responsibilities to keep everyone involved, so that one person does not have to receive all of us at her home and take the reins for a weekend.  Each trip will alternate hostesses, but beyond housing we will all do our fair share of the ‘typical’ hostess responsibilities.  We have a few different theories for how our itinerary should be planned but this is what we agreed on for laying it out for the first trip.

We are each in charge of planning one memorable day that preferably is a day trip rather than just hanging out poolside. Instead a viable option would be a day at Hamilton Pool Preserve, picnicking and swimming.

I am in charge of Sunday.  By then, we will have made our way to Austin and will most likely be dragging, so I want to plan something low-key.

I had been brainstorming options for days, when I was looking up popular search phrases for meioptics.com and was struck by the site.  MEI Optics sells all sorts of vision enhancing equipment by Swarovski optics.; binoculars, monoculars, spotting scopes, night vision goggles, and riffle scopes.   The products really got me thinking.  The possibilities for play seem endless--who hasn’t wanted to go on a safari to hunt prey or to stalk through the dead of night on a secret mission?  Visions of African wildlife and repelling off skyscrapers by the light of the moon played in my head.

Okay, so I don’t think I could shoot anything carbon based, maybe hunting binoculars are out of the question, and night vision goggles might be somewhat conspicuous in the hands of four twenty something girls on the streets of Austin.  Perhaps these options might be a little far fetched for this weekend, but we could definitely use some birding binoculars for a day at the lake. Perhaps later in life, when our pockets are deeper, we can go back to the site and pick up some toys.  Even batman was only as good as his tool belt!

I suppose for now, we will search for binoculars in our garages or borrow some from my grandmother, the avid bird watcher.  I’ll do a bit more digging, and find us a place with both an array of feathered residents and hopefully some aquatic attractions; that way we will keep cool and possible occupy ourselves if it does end up that bird watching is an activity that only my grandmamma can enjoy. We will see…
