Career Advancement Accounts were created by the Departments of Defense and Labor.  Under the Military Spouse Career Advancement Initiative, Career Advancement Accounts were created for qualified candidates.  These Career Advancement Accounts target the spouses of military members.

Career Advancement Accounts

An eligible military spouse can receive up to $6000!  This $6000 grant can be used for postsecondary education and training!  Eligible expenses include tuition, books, necessary equipment, and credentialing and licensing fees.

Sound interesting?  If you are an eligible military spouse you definitely deserve these benefits.  The Departments of Defense and Labor recognized the need for these kinds of career initiatives due to the fact that so many of our military spouses end up in underpaid positions due to the fact that they move so frequently.  Thus, CAA was born!  Now is the time to apply for your Career Advancement Account!

A key component of this program is Portable Careers.  A portable career is defined as a high-skilled, high-demand professionEducation, Healthcare, and Finance related jobs can be described as a portable career.  Specific examples of portable careers are an Accountant, a Dental Hygienist, a Human Resource Specialist, a medical Biller and Coder, a Pharmacy Technician, or a Tax Preparer.  Other portable careers fall in the Information Technology field such as a Computer Specialist, a Database Administrator, or a Network Analyst.  Still other portable careers include a Child Care Worker, a Hospitality Manager, a Nurse, a Police Detective, or a Social Worker.  Teachers and Teacher Assistants also fall into this category.

As you can see there are several exciting and profitable portable careers covered under the Career Advancement initiative.  After you receive training in one of these high demand fields you will be able to seek employment wherever your spouses’ military orders may take you.  Thus some of the stress of finding new employment and moving into a new area will be allayed.
