For more than three decades Pockets Menswear has made it our mission to dress men "better than they have to" and we are up to the challenge. Classic but creative is our reason to be with a blend of tailored clothing and sportswear. We pioneered Ermenegildo Zegna in Dallas and have a Zegna boutique within our store. Our business is personal service and expert tailoring with the finest brands of menswear from all over the world.Through several fashion cycles and a workplace that's increasingly casual, Pockets' staff and customers have enjoyed re-discovering the great paradox of modern men's fashion: the steadily increasing popularity of made-to-measure suits, sport coats, trousers and dress shirts. Those are the wardrobe items made especially for individual customers--all with the personal input of the client, Pockets' sales consultants and the expertise of some of the world's leading fashion houses. Explaining the popularity, Pockets' Doug Duckworth says, "More men are more demanding. And they have an understanding of how a suit can and should fit. They're more sophisticated in their tastes and they like the romance of having something made for them." The Dallas store's long-standing relationships with Ermenegildo Zegna and factories in Italy and Canada that produce the Pockets' Tasca-labeled products, have helped it develop a range of made-to-measure offerings. The customer's satisfaction is a reflection of Pockets' ability to communicate measurements and choices to the designer's factory. "Our top consultants, Andy Weil and Doug Duckworth, have made careers of the practice," says David Smith, Pockets' owner. "Communicating with factories is where we separate ourselves." From the outset, creating a made-to-measure suit or sportcoat is a cooperative effort. "We like to ask questions because that's the only way you can get input from a customer," Smith says. "We hope to create a dialog." Pockets' in-store inventory is a starting place. A Dallas sales consultant takes a dozen measurements, all while asking the customer where he prefers extra room or a trimmer fit. Pockets then incorporates the customer's input in four areas: design, model, fabric and price. One misconception about made-to-measure involves the word "bespoke." A true bespoke suit-in the British sense involves multiple fittings where a master-tailor creates a "basted garment." Pockets' approach represents the modern evolution of that and an understanding that there's a considerable difference between tailoring and design. "Just because someone's a tailor, doesn't mean he's a designer," says David. "We have great tailors in our shop and we work closely with master tailors overseas to complete our garments. But a designer is someone who changes the silhouette from season to season to make a suit and sportcoat look newer and fresher but never out of date. Here the options and combinations are a matter of customer preference. The choices: single- or double-breasted; two- or three-button jackets; side, center or no vents; linings; a side ticket pocket for a British accent; working buttons; and pleats or flat fronts for trousers. Dress shirts, too, can be custom made with a variety of collar styles: point, button-down, modified spread and cut-away spread. Personal choices on pockets, cuffs and monogramming are also accommodated. Hamilton Custom Shirtmakers has been a family owned and operated business since 1883. Their process is hands-on; each collar, cuff and body of each shirt is cut one at a time from a pattern made just for you. The cutter works with a very sharp knife on a big wooden butcher block. The single needle sewing staff's tenure at Hamilton ranges from 5 years to 30 years; it's this semi-assembly manner that maximizes quality and control.Click to visit Pockets Menswear to see our Zegna inventory online or call at 214-368-1167
