Traumatic brain injury, says Plano personal injury lawyer Richard Armstrong, is usually an acute event similar to other injuries, but that is where the similarity ends. Common causes of TBI include violence, transportation accidents, construction, and sports. In the United States, about 28% of TBI is attributable to slip and fall accidents, while motor vehicle accidents account for approximately 20%. Being struck by an object causes about 19%, personal violence for 11%, and bicycle accidents not involving motor vehicles for 3%. Bicycles and motorcycles are two major causes of TBI, with the latter increasing in frequency in developing countries. Estimates range between 1.6 and 3.8 million traumatic brain injuries each year that are a  [more info...]

Frisco AC Repair Service owner Steve Lauten, President of Total Air and Heat, offers some thoughts on warranties for your new AC system. Warranties: Bang for your Buck? Everyone always cringes when the dreaded question is asked: are you interested in an extended warranty? Sometimes a warranty seems like a curse. You spend the extra money and nothing ever happens where you end up needing to use it. But then, you don't get one and something does happen and you end up really regretting not spending the cash on the warranty. Air conditioning and heating systems are a huge investment and unfortunately, I can't tell you whether or not an extended warranty is right for you. However, I can give you some information to hopefully make your dec  [more info...]

Plano AC Repair Service owner Steve Lauten, President of Total Air and Heat, discusses importance of regular tune ups. Tuning In to Tune Ups You hear a lot about tune-ups. Mostly, it's about the tune-ups on your car, and there is even the annual tune-up on yourself at the doctor's office. What are typically forgotten about are the tune-ups on your air conditioning and heating systems. Air conditioning and heating tune-ups can commonly be forgotten, or seen as a waste of money. If it's cooling fine, then why bother? An unknown but impressive fact is that in 1 year, your air conditioning and heating system runs enough hours to equal a car that travels 60,000 miles. That would take a serious toll on your car to use it that much yet n  [more info...]

Dallas Business Coach Ashley Forbes Kellog with ForbesRobinson Reminders on Showing Respect for the Red, White and Blue. It was a reminder that no matter your politics or where you sit on issues, we are all proud and we are free. The Protocol School of Washington is a serious place. You not only learn how to set a table but how to bury a dignitary. One of most interesting things we learned was how casual Americans are in comparison to other countries regarding their national colors. Dallas Business Development Coach Ashley Forbes Kellog with ForbesRobinson talks about the the Importance of Listening well. As Ernest Hemingway put it, "Most people never listen." Being open and willing to really hear someone is indispensable to building relationships. The juxtaposition is that no likes to be interrupted while everyone likes to be heard. Understanding why we interrupt is key in nurturing our ability to listen. What drives us to interrupt is our need to have something of value to contribute (to matter). The problem is the person talking wants to matter as well. Tips to maintain focus: Listen carefully to what people are trying to say Don't lose eye contact Interject when appropriate with phrases like: I  [more info...]

Dallas Business Development Consultant Ashley Forbes Kellog discusses the importance of Mastering the Art of Straight Talk Straight talk doesn't always come naturally, but your credibility depends on mastering this ability. Every day in both our professional and personal lives we make promises we don't intend to keep. "I'll call you!" "Let's do lunch!" "We really need to get together." "I tried to call you back." "I'm almost finished with the project." This behavior has become so commonplace that we don't even realize we are lying to ourselves. Our first responsibility is to our own well-being, so let's stop damaging ourselves with empty promises. Denton Pest Control Service owner Blake Williams of Service 1st Pest and Lawn offers advice on Carpenter Ants. Carpenter ants are social insects that make their colonies primarily in wood. They hollow out wood to build their nests, making their galleries and chambers velvety-smooth as if a carpenter had sanded the surfaces. Their tunneling in wood and foraging for food and water lead to their "pest" status in and around homes. The presence of carpenter ants can mean that a building has problems that need attention, such as moisture, rotting wood or other conditions conducive to ant infestation. In Texas, there are at least 14 species of carpenter ants that destroy wood. Homeowners can minimize damage to their houses by learning how to i  [more info...]

Irving Estate Planning Attorney Answers Frequently Asked Questions About Wills. Can I use a computer or online program to prepare a will? You can but this should be done with extreme caution. If the will does not dispose of all of your property, have appropriate language for an independent administration, or include a self proving affidavit, you could actually increase the cost of probating your estate. Other problems could arise from using a software program as well. If I have a will from another state will that work? Since all wills are based entirely on state law you should have an out of state will reviewed by an attorney. Plano Personal Injury Attorney Richard Armstrong believes it is one of the worst things a person injured by another's negligence can do. A personal injury lawsuit can disrupt the life of even the most stable individual, says Plano lawyer Richard Armstrong. This unsettling aspect of such a unique event in a person's life can cause an individual to make a poor decision. Insurance companies are notorious for attempting to deflect liability and minimize the value of personal injury claims. Not only is the claimant faced with expensive medical bills, but he or she may have to take time off from work, sometimes for weeks or months." Although it may seem tempting to handle your own claim," says Armstrong, I have yet to see it pay off for thecli  [more info...]

Dallas Fashion Consultant, Julie Bartlett, asks what do your shoes say about you? [caption id="attachment_62" align="alignright" width="156" caption="T-strap Pump"][/caption] Dressing well begins with the shoes, and wearing a different pair of shoes each day will lengthen the life of the shoe as you allow it to 'breath' while it rests. You also give your feet a break by having an assortment of heels to wear during the week, perhaps even during the day depending on your foot activity. Each season you will find a variety of trendy shapes and colors which can add a sense of fun to your shoe collection. While a closed-toe shoe is the foremost professional choice, during summer temps a peep-toe will also do the job. Just make sure th  [more info...]

Dallas Fashion Consultant, Julie Bartlett with Colour IQ, answers the question, 'Is My Dress Too Short?' With summer temps rising, it's normal to want to wear less fabric in hopes of staying cool, but there is such a thing as being too short, especially in the workplace. By definition, proper business attire covers more skin than it reveals. So, if more than two inches above the knee is exposed, then it is not appropriate in a business environment. Naturally, that depends on the business she is wanting to conduct. Consider these guidelines: In a social setting such as a party, a girls night out, a first date? She should be able to sit, bend down to pick something up off the floor, or lean over a counter without the world visua  [more info...]

Dallas Fashion Consultant Julie Bartlett with Colour IQ says "Put Your Best Socks Forward" Gentlemen, what about your sock collection? Are there really 'rules' when it comes to socks? Yes! First, it is important to understand that your shoes should match or be a shade darker than your hemline. As to sock options, there are two schools of thought. One option is to match your hemline. The other is to match your shoes. In business, as in formal attire, it is best to match your socks to your shoes. This is easy to do when a man wears a black shoe with a black slack. But what if he's wearing a black shoe with a navy slack? Match the shoe. Even more difficult, are those 'business casual' ensembles. While I would never e  [more info...]
