Dallas Short Run Specialty Box Maker says business is booming.

Dallas short run specialty box maker BoxWerkz started business on November 3, 2008 in the middle of what some people say is a horrible economy.

Stephen Shepherd, partner in Dallas specialty box maker BoxWerkz recently said, “Everywhere I look I see news stories about unemployment, poor economy, layoffs, recession, the stock market crash and general gloom and doom.  With all the problems in the world, some of us are still trying to make something special.  Some of us still believe this is America and that anything can happen.”

Stephen Shepherd started BoxWerkz, located in Lewisville Texas, with partner Keith Steele. Stephen talked Keith, who was retired and bored, into getting into a business that neither of them knew anything about.  Shepherd and Steele had worked together for years in the office automation industry.  Shepherd called Steele told him he wanted to start a business making boxes.  Shepherd’s daughter’s father-in-law sells equipment for box making and had been talking about the specialty box making business as a niche marketing opportunity for some time.  When Shepherd first talked with Steele about this business idea Steele’s first question was… Why boxes?

In England, where the short run specialty box making equipment that they purchased is manufactured, they have had bad roads and high gas prices for years.  It seems that they have small corrugated box plants, where they specialize in short run box making, in every town, on several street corners, kind of like convenience stores here in the states. In America, we preach buy in large quantities, get better prices.  The American box manufacturing model has developed to make boxes as fast as you can, as many per minute as possible.  American box makers want big orders for their big equipment because small orders are not worth setting the equipment up to run them.  Most box makers have a minimum order size and it is usually several thousand boxes.  Many manufacturers will order a year supply and sit on the inventory until it is used up.

The BoxWerkz concept is to offer short run box making. Clients can order only the number of boxes they need each month.  BoxWerkz clients don’t have to sit on a box inventory.  Even though BoxWerkz is a short run box maker they can compete with the price their clients are paying from traditional makers because of the inventory carrying cost savings, plus they save valuable space for storage.  BoxWerkz will make boxes and deliver them as needed and in any size.  If the short run specialty box maker concept works in England, why not here?

BoxWerkz opened on November 3, 2008. BoxWerkz is offering joint ventures and licensing opportunities across the U.S.  BoxWerkz in Lewisville has rapidly established a niche in the box making marketing in North Texas and has plans to bring this concept to other markets across the United States.
