Austin Elementary School Student Wins Regional Division In State Poster Contest For Immediate ReleaseApril 15, 2009 The City of Coppell and Keep Coppell Beautiful are proud to announce that the winner of the City of Coppell’s Arbor Day poster contest is the regional winner of the statewide contest. Lea Balcerzak, a student at Austin Elementary School, created artwork based on the theme of “Trees are Terrific…in Cities and Towns” for the Texas Forest Service’s annual Arbor Day Poster Contest. The Coppell Park Board selected Lea’s artwork as the overall city winner from over 100 entries from CISD elementary students. After an online vote through the Texas Forest Service, Lea’s artwork was selected as the winner of the Trinity-Blacklands region. "Lea is a gifted and thoughtful art student. We're all so proud of her achievement and happy she is representing Coppell in such a 'green' way,” said Lisa Ricciardelli, Austin Elementary School art teacher. Lea and her artwork will be recognized as the winner of the Trinity-Blacklands region by the Texas Forest Service at the regional Arbor Day ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Grand Prairie City Hall. Lea was recognized as the city of Coppell winner by Mayor Doug Stover at Earthfest on April 4th.
