In April of 09, members of Hope Now and the mortgage lending industry modified 127,000 home mortgages and completed 143,000 home mortgage repayment plans. Compared to March, modifications dropped slightly, while payment plans increased. HOPE NOW explained that the reversal in numbers was partially caused by the real estate industry beginning to implement the Obama administration’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). You have to know that the lender does not want your home to go to foreclosure and are willing to modify your home mortgage to work with you.

Faith Schwartz is the executive director of Hope Now. She states the home mortgage lenders and servicers are working hard to make HAMP a successful weapon in the fight against home foreclosures. Ms. Schwartz says, “Many HOPE NOW members see HAMP as an important opportunity for homeowners in trouble. The number of homeowners helped by the real estate industry each month should continue to increase as this program continues to be implemented.”
