Tigers Bounce Buffaloes, 66-62 by OSR Staff Boulder, CO.. - For the first 38 minutes of play Saturday afternoon in Boulder, things looked pretty dour for the Missouri Tigers. Down 11-0 to start the game, and trailing by as much as 14 points with 13 minutes left in the contest, somehow, someway, Mike Anderson's troops dug deep and pulled out a come-from-behind 66-62 win at the Coors Events Center. Mizzou never led until a Matt Lawrence three-pointer from the wing with two minutes to play gave the Tigers a 61-60 lead. That capped a furious rally from a 14-point deficit in the second half, as the Tigers hung in and chipped away. Most of the second-half heroics came from forward Leo Lyons, who came off the bench to play perhaps his most inspired game of his career, as he scored 22 points, had 7 rebounds and added 3 assists in 22 minutes of play. Lyons tallied 16 of his 22 points in the second half to help the cause, including a dunk after a Buff turnover that pushed the Tiger lead to 63-60 with less than two minutes to play. The Tigers did a great job Saturday of hanging in there when things weren't going their way, said MU Head Coach Mike Anderson. "What a gut check, especially the way things started," said Anderson. "Our guys stayed focused and stayed true to the task at hand and started taking advantage of the size and versatility we had. Hopefully this can help with the learning curve for our team," he said. Lyons was the key to that size advantage, as he continually took the ball to the hoop, and the results were a 9-of-13 shooting day from the floor, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line. Anderson credited the Tiger defensive effort in the second half as one of the keys to the big comeback win. "It was a wear and tear game, we wore them down," he said. "In the first half, they had only five turnovers, but in the second half they had 11," he said. Colorado shot only 38 percent (8-of-21 FGs) in the second half, after beginning at a hot 52 percent (12-of-23) in the first period. The Tigers countered by hitting nearly 50 percent from the floor after intermission (16-of-33 FGs), after making just 9-of-25 (36.0%) in the first half. Matt Lawrence's three pointer that gave MU its first lead came just moments after he had missed another three that would have given Mizzou the lead. "That's the guy we were looking for," said Anderson. "We wanted to run something for him, I know he's been struggling but we wanted to get him the shot, and it was good to see it go down for him," he said. After Lawrence's shot, the Tigers never relinquished the lead. Lyons followed with a dunk after a Buff turnover to make it 63-60, and after Colorado sank two free throws with 1:10 remaining to make it 63-62, it was all Tigers. DeMarre Carroll missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 34 seconds left to give the Buffs the ball, but Stefhon Hannah stole it and laid it in for a 65-62 lead. Hannah would end with 13 points on the day, and was the only Tiger other than Lyons to reach double figures. Colorado's Xavier Silas missed a 3-pointer for the tie and Hannah, who scored 11 of his 13 points after halftime, sank a free throw for the final margin. The win broke Mizzou's three-game losing streak and gave the Tigers their first road victory of the year. Mizzou improved to 12-8 overall, and 2-3 on the year in Big 12 Conference play. The Tigers return to Columbia, where they will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers Wednesday night (Jan. 30th) at 7 p.m. at Mizzou Arena
