Skin Cancer

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center talk about the most common form of cancer in the US - Skin Cancer! At least 1.2 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every year. The most common form of skin cancer is basal cell carsenoma, followed by sqamous cell, and finally, the most lethal, melanoma. Warning signs include small spots that change size or texture, or even bleed. Red scaled areas are also dangerous. The symptoms of melanoma include any changes in a previously existing mole or spot. With early detection, treatment is available for all forms of skin cancer.

Botox

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center dispell the myths about botox. Botox is purified protein derivitive that is processed to make it safe for human use. When done by an experienced injector, botox does not “freeze” your face. Botox is used for both medical and cosmetic procedures. In cosmetic situations, the muscles are simply relaxed to create a more pleasant, youthful appearance. The effects last about 3-4 months. Botox is both preventative and corrective.

Good Skin Care

It’s never too late to start a good skin care for life! A good skin care system starts with a hydrolic acid cleanser. This improves the texture and clarity of the skin. The most important thing you can put on your skin during the day is sunscreen. SPF 30 or higher is recommended, and be sure that it covers both UVB and UVB. In the evening, the most important skin cream is a retinoid or retin-A; this helps reduce some of the signs of sun damage.

Acne

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center define acne and outline the most effective treatments available. Acne is an infection that results from plugged pores in the skin. Acne affects both teenagers and adults!  Park Cities Dermatology Center is on the cutting edge of acne treatment with their new Isolaze acne therapy. The Isolaze cleans pores by a combination of suction and light. The treatments can be done every two to four weeks. PCDC has the only Isolaze treatment therapy in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. A treatment such as Isolaze is an alternative to antibiotics in the treatment of acne.

Controlling Bad Acne

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center discuss ways to control bad acne. Stress can be the cause of acne, so when an important event is around the corner and a big zit shows up, PCDC can help get rid of that unsightly zit within 24 hours! This is achieved by injecting a tiny drop of medicine directly into the zit. This is called an introlesional injection, and can be combined with other treatments to reduce acne problems as quickly as possible. To prevent bad acne, it is important to see a doctor as soon as signs appear. Without the proper treatment, acne can cause scars. Typical acne therapy includes: glycolic acid cleanser, benzoyl peroxide, retinoid, oral antibiotics, and surface light chemical peels. Additional therapies such as light treatments to decrease bacteria, Isolaz treatments, oral birth control pills, aldactone or spironolactone, and accutane can also be prescribed.

Improving Your Skin in the New Year

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center tell us how to avoid the wear and tear that the holidays can induce upon skin. Quick fixes for skin include a light chemical peel to restore youth, photo facial to lighten brown spots, botox to minimize lines, and filler agents to plump the lips and add softness to the face. All of these procedures are completely healed within four days. A new year is a great time to get a skin exam done, as well. Knowing your skin is the most important step in defending yourself from skin cancer.

Filler Agents

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center introduce all the newest filler agents. Fillers such as Juvederm and Restilane contain familiar acids that the body naturally absorbs over time. Some of the others may not be absorbed as quickly by the body and therefore last longer, though they are just as safe. Fillers serve as a catalyst for the body’s own collogen production! The filler Radius can actually be used to build cheek bones. Any of these procedures can be done in about an hour.

Rosacea

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center discuss the treatments available for those suffering from rosacea. Rosacea is an inflamatory condition that results in broken blood vessels, bumps, and red rashes. Though the exact cause of rosacea is not known, many triggers exist. Many treatments are available such as antibiotics, topical creams, sulfer containing compounds, laser therapies, and additional anti-inflamatory therapies.

Spider Veins

Dr. Adler and PA Witten of Park Cities Dermatology Center explain how to combat those nasty spider veins. Spider veins are small vessels, generally on the legs, that serve no purpose; they are caused by genetics, excessive weight, pregnancy, and tramatized skin. Sclerotherapy is a treatment where Dr. Adler injects a solution into the blood vessel, making the vessel collapse, and eventually disappear. Maintaining proper weight and exercising help to keep the blood vessels normal.
