The GS 450h features an aggressive braking system, including power-assisted disc brakes with Brake Assist and a four-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) . These brakes are ventilated for superior stopping performance. And the front wheels feature high-friction front brake pads, which yield a higher coefficient of resistance on the rotors. Specially designed for high-performance driving, these brakes work in conjunction with the Electronically Controlled Brakes (ECB) system to help provide even faster braking response.

In addition to giving the GS 450h a sportier appearance, the dual exhaust system allows the engine to "breathe" more easily, resulting in better efficiency and improved performance. While vehicles with formidable performance can often have high emissions, the low emissions of the GS 450h have earned it the environmentally advanced SULEV certification. Safety
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) employs computerized control to help prevent the wheels from locking up or skidding during braking. For additional control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) monitors and manages the force between the front and rear brakes to help prevent the vehicle from dipping during braking. And for emergency stops, Brake Assist  automatically helps boost braking force when the driver does not apply enough pressure to the brake pedal.

The available Pre-Collision System (PCS) is equipped with a front-mounted radar sensor that constantly monitors the distance of the vehicle ahead. When the PCS computer determines that a frontal collision is unavoidable, it preemptively retracts the front seatbelts and engages the Brake Assist for increased braking force when the driver steps on the brake pedal.
