Performance

To offer a smooth yet responsive ride, the LS 600h L is equipped with the world's first V8 all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain on a luxury hybrid. Utilizing a TORSEN® limited-slip center differential, engine power is directed between the front and rear axles, providing improved traction and control on a wide range of road surfaces and in a variety of weather conditions.

The shock absorbers featured in the Adaptive Variable Air Suspension (AVS) are electronically modulated and automatically change damping rates to accommodate a variety of driving conditions. Unlike traditional coil springs, these air springs can be inflated or deflated to better suit your ride preference. A three-position switch on the console allows you to adjust the suspension for either Normal, Comfort or Sport driving.

The braking system on the LS 600h L features four-wheel ventilated disc brakes and Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB), which is a vital component of the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. A sensor detects the brake-pedal position and activates the master cylinder accordingly. Both the front and rear brakes are ventilated to help provide superior stopping performance.

Performance drivers may wish to consider the available high-friction brake pads (available with the Active Power Stabilizer Suspension System ). They yield a higher coefficient of friction on the rotors to help provide better braking response.

The LS 600h L also includes a brake hold system that, when activated, helps hold the vehicle in place after a complete stop-without requiring the driver to keep a foot on the brake pedal. This helps prevent the LS 600h L from creeping forward or backward when stopped.

Also noteworthy is the electronic parking brake, which is activated the moment the vehicle is placed in Park. As soon as the driver shifts into any other gear, the parking brake is automatically released.

Safety

While conventional vehicle stability features wait until a loss of traction has occurred, the LS 600h L features the breakthrough Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. Working with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) [5], VDIM can predict and take steps to help prevent loss of traction during a turn. When a series of sensors detects a problem, the system is designed to use a combination of individual-wheel braking, throttle activation and steering assistance to seamlessly correct the situation before a loss of traction actually occurs, thus helping the driver keep the vehicle on track. On slippery surfaces, Traction Control (TRAC) helps maximize the grip of each wheel separately to help reduce wheelspin.

At the touch of a button, the available Lexus Link®  Call Center is at your service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If an airbag deploys in your Lexus, the system automatically sends an emergency alert to the Call Center. The Lexus Link® Advisor can dispatch emergency personnel, roadside assistance or support if your vehicle is lost or stolen. To help provide all occupants with an advanced level of protection, the LS 600h L is equipped with a state-of-the-art network of airbags. These include a sophisticated dual-stage driver's and front passenger's advanced airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) that deploys at different speeds, depending on such factors as crash severity and the driver's seat-track position.

A slight depression in the center of the front passenger's twin-chamber airbag helps disperse the forces applied to the passenger immediately after deployment.

The LS 600h L also features front and rear side curtain airbags (SRS) that are designed to help provide additional protection for the occupants' heads during a side impact. In addition, front seat-mounted side airbags (SRS) are integrated into the front seats themselves. Which means, no matter where the seats are positioned, the airbags are designed to deploy in locations consistent with respect to the driver and front passenger. The available rear-seat side airbags (SRS) help keep rear passengers protected from side impacts. And standard knee airbags (SRS) help protect the driver and front passenger in a severe frontal collision.
