The 2010 RX 350

With integrated front foglamps for improved visibility and incredibly sleek lines, the RX is designed for outstanding aerodynamics. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels, black privacy glass and a black rear spoiler all accent the rugged stance and advanced styling. 

Highlights

A particularly useful feature when driving at night or during inclement weather, the available Adaptive Front Lighting System is designed to estimate and illuminate where the RX will be in three seconds based on vehicle speed and steering angle. In a left turn, the left headlamp can rotate up to 15 degrees, and in a right turn, the right headlamp can rotate up to 5 degrees.

With a unique secure code, the SmartAccess key fob automatically enables you to unlock and open all four of the vehicle's doors and its available power rear door without removing the key fob from your purse, pocket or briefcase. As soon as the sensors detect your SmartAccess key fob, the door unlocks when you touch the handle. SmartAccess even activates the lighting entry system to illuminate your points of entry from the exterior puddle lamps to the interior lights. Once inside, it just takes a push of the button to start the engine.

A first for Lexus, the Heads-up Display system on the RX can project simple navigation directions, audio information and vehicle speed on the windshield in front of you, so you can spend more time focused on the road ahead. Unlike other Heads-up Display systems that provide intersection names, requiring the driver to locate street signs, the navigation directions on the system in the RX are provided using a countdown of the remaining distance before an action needs to be taken and an animated arrow that guides you intuitively through turns. Also, unlike other systems that require an unsightly designated viewing box in the windshield, the windshield on the RX was specifically designed so a viewing box was not needed, resulting in a windshield that is not only unmarred, but allows the projected information to be positioned at different heights for your convenience.

Safety

To assist you with parking and when negotiating narrow passes, an available Wide-view Side Monitor camera built into the passenger-side mirror can display an overhead view to the right of the RX at slow speeds or when in reverse.

A front-mounted millimeter-wave radar sensor on the available Pre-Collision System (PCS) constantly monitors the distance and closing speed of a vehicle traveling ahead. When the system's computer determines that a frontal collision is unavoidable, the PCS preemptively tightens the front seatbelts and preps the Brake Assist for increased braking pressure the moment the driver steps on the brake pedal.

The class-leading Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) in the RX includes front seat-mounted side-impact airbags that provide a larger protection area than conventional side airbags. A driver's dual-stage airbag deploys at one of two speeds, depending on factors like crash severity and driver's seat-track position. And the front passenger's dual-stage, twin-chamber airbag uses occupant weight and crash-severity sensors to monitor its deployment. Also included are front and rear roll-sensing side curtain airbags, outboard rear seat-mounted airbags and driver's and front passenger's knee airbags.

The RX 450h

Entering its second generation, the RX 450h will feature an enhanced Lexus Hybrid Drive system with a 3.5-liter V6 gas engine that runs on a highly efficient Atkinson cycle. Combined with a new, more efficient inverter, the total system output will be 295 horsepower, 27 more horsepower than the current generation RX hybrid.

Another step in the Lexus Hybrid Drive's evolution is the addition of two new systems that improve its efficiency. The first is an exhaust-heat recovery system that reduces engine warm-up time allowing it to stop earlier, more often, and for longer periods. The result is an improvement in both fuel economy and emissions. The second is a cooled exhaust-gas recirculation system that reduces engine pumping losses, which also helps to improve economy.

The RX 450h features a front-wheel hybrid drive or an electronically driven, part-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) hybrid drive system, which supplies the rear wheels with the optimal amount of torque as conditions demand. Unlike mechanical AWD systems that reduce fuel efficiency via added weight and friction, the RX 450h's rear-mounted electric motor-generator allows all four wheels to perform regenerative braking, charging the hybrid battery more effectively.

The RX 450h hybrid will have its own unique styling features, including an exclusive grille, hybrid badging including blue-trimmed Lexus logos, unique front bumper, a special 19-inch optional wheel design, blue-tinted headlamps and taillamps, and optional LED headlamps.

The new RX is available with a selection of luxury and sport option packages, which include features like Lexus' exclusive Mark Levinson® Surround Sound system, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, dynamic radar cruise control, and a Sports Package featuring a sport-tuned suspension.

The all-new RX will offer a wide-angle side view monitor. With a camera located under the passenger side-view mirror, the driver can check hard-to-view areas on the passenger side of the vehicle by simply selecting a button on the navigation screen or the steering wheel and view the camera image on the navigation screen.

True to its heritage, the RX's active and passive safety systems continue to be among the vehicle's most impressive features. Lexus' available Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) seamlessly integrates individual systems like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Hill Assist Control (HAC) and Traction Control (TRAC). It operates in a smooth proactive way via throttle, steering and braking to help prevent skids while cornering before the vehicle reaches its operating limits on slippery roads or other challenging conditions.
