The Phillips Charitable Foundation is a charitable organization created to aid single parents, students interested in engineering, and wounded veterans. The board members, including CEO of Infor Charles Phillips and his wife, formed the foundation in order to specifically aid people they believed needed help. In addition, the board members felt they could relate to struggling engineering students, single mothers, and wounded veterans. Because there were not many other charitable organizations targeting these specific groups, Charles Phillips’ wife and he believed it would be a successful and unique organization. The organization is designed without an administrative overhead so that the board members can quickly make decisions, which is especially necessary in cases of emergencies. Further, the organization is very focused on making a connection between donors and recipients.
The Phillips Charitable Foundation focuses on specific types of people: single parents, engineering students, and wounded veterans. Charles Phillips, his wife and other board members decided to support single parents because of the known hardships and challenges that exist for single parents. The reason that the Phillips Charitable Foundation supports engineering students is because two of the board members have degrees in engineering and understand the challenges of earning such a degree. More specifically, the organization prefers to support degrees that provide skill sets rather than general knowledge. Today, many students are interested in pursuing more liberal arts degrees, yet engineering degrees are especially valuable as many employers look for qualified engineers. The objective of the Phillips Charitable Foundation is to encourage students to major in engineering and explore other related areas such as science, technology, and math. The organization hopes that if more students study these areas, there will be more job opportunities for these students. Additionally, the Phillips Charitable Foundation strives to provide financial assistance for wounded veterans. Several of the board members have military backgrounds and understand the importance of providing aid for wounded veterans.
The Phillips Chartiable Foundation has touched numerous lives and helped several individuals take hold of their lives once again. Particularly, a Greenberg family in Los Angeles lost a mother and wife to bone and breast cancer. After Peter Greenberg lost his wife, Charles Phillips and the board of Phillips Charitable realized they could help him make some payments that he was unable to make on his own. The Phillips Charitable Foundation helped Peter, single parent of three children, make his payments and return to financial stability.
The board members of Phillips Charitable as well as Charles Phillips’ wife are proud of their charitable foundation and hope that it continues to grow and help more people.
