Jenn's Cleaning Tip of The Week

Your bathrooms can be the most used rooms in the house and this makes them hard to clean and especially hard to keep clean. There are a few time saving tips that will help you clean them faster and make them easier to clean the next time around.

The order that you clean a bathroom matters, and you should always try to clean the room from top to bottom. Clean any cobwebs from the ceiling or corners first with a long handled duster. There is usually a lot of debris that falls as part of this cleaning and this can be done up as you move through the bathroom. Next clean the walls if needed and again do this top to bottom so that any of the dust settles lower in the room.

Next move on to the mirrors and shower door. The best cleaner to use on these is a simple mixture of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. This will quickly cut through grease and hard water stains and leave the surface clean and streak free. While you are in the shower area, do the shower walls and tub. Start with the walls and use the same solution you used for the shower door. If there are a lot of areas with soap buildup, Gift cards are the perfect gift!spray the area and move on to other cleaning to give it a chance to work. Return to this area later for the final cleanup. Another tip that can save you time cleaning these areas in the future is to apply a light coating of good car wax to the shower walls and shower door. Be very careful not to get any on the shower floor as this will make it very slippery. Once applied, be sure to clean off the area and rinse thoroughly. This wax will help prevent buildup of soap and hard water stains as it helps to seal these surfaces.

Next move on to the toilet and clean this with the solution you have been using. If there are particularly heavy stains, you can use white vinegar directly on the stained area by applying it to a rag. If you do this, make sure to rinse the surface well when the stains are gone. This solution is also great to use for sinks and fixtures as well.

Once you have finished these areas, its time to wash the floor and let the room dry. To help prevent having an overly dirty floor, use a bath mat or two in the room. One in front of the shower, one in front of the toilet and one for the sink will catch most debris and keep the floor cleaner between being mopped. It is always easier to drop these bath mats in the laundry than having to deal with stains and debris on the floor. If you have a shower with a shower curtain instead of a glass door, you can run this through the laundry as well on gentle cycle. When it’s washed, hang dry the curtain back in the bathroom.
