Jenn's Cleaning Tip of The Week

There are few cleaning chores that people dread more than cleaning a bathroom. Getting this task out of the way quickly can be easier than you think if you take a little bit of time to prepare beforehand. There are several tips and tricks you can use to clean your bathroom quickly and get back to the fun things in life.

The first thing you need to consider is your cleaning supplies. Before you start the bathroom cleaning assault you need to make sure that you have all of the supplies you need for the event. Take these out and check to see that you have enough of each to finish the job and find something that you can use to keep these handy as you work. An apron with a lot of pockets is helpful and will allow you to always have your supplies within arms reach. Also try to wear something old and comfortable when cleaning. This way if it gets stained in the process its no big deal.

When you have assembled your cleaning supplies you can start the job. The first mistake many people make is pulling out any rugs in the bathroom. You should leave these in place as they will catch any falling dirt or debris from the cleaning and allow you to simply toss them in the laundry to clean it all up. If you remove them early, you’ll have to clean this mess up off of the floor yourself.

When you clean a bathroom, start at the ceiling and work down. Your first task is to clean out any cobwebs on the ceiling or in the corners and then wipe the walls down if they need dusting. Also pay attention to the baseboards and especially the heater vents. If you leave these dusty, they will have the rest of the room dirty in a day or two. You can easily do this with a long handled duster. Try to use one of them that has a removable head that you can launder. This way when you are finished with the room you can drop it on one of the rugs and drop them both in the laundry.

When this is done, move onto the sink and shower. If there are any particularly heavy areas of soap buildup, spray them first to give the cleaner a chance to work. You can let this cleaner sit for a bit as you start on other areas. A good, natural cleaner that you can use can be made from 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water. This can be put into a spray bottle and used for cleaning your entire bathroom. It is a great grease and stain cutter and is a very economical alternative to commercial cleaners.

While the shower and sink are soaking, clean the toilet next. One of the best things to use here is a pre-moistened wipe. This can be used along with your cleaning solution and adds the extra scrubbing action you may need to get this area clean. The nice thing about the wipe is that you can use it on the sink fixtures first and then use it on the toilet before flushing it. Once these two are clean, roll up the small rugs to be laundered and mop out the floor. If you organize correctly this whole operation should be very quick.
