Jenn's Cleaning Tip of The Week
The bathroom in most homes can be one of the busiest and dirtiest rooms you have to clean. With every family member adding to the clutter, it can seem an impossible task to bring some order to this chaos. There are several simple things you can do to help with your bathroom cleaning, and using these simple and speedy tips will make keeping it clean easier as well.
Some of these tips require a little bit of training for your family members and with small changes to their daily routine they can save you a lot of time you’re your bathroom cleaning. A simple thing like using a washcloth to erase the ring of soap normally left around a tub can be a big help, and eliminates the need for scrubbing later when it dries. Another great idea is to keep pre-moistened wipes handy in the bathroom and use them to wipe down the sink every now and then to eliminate the soapy buildup that can accumulate with use. Having your family hang up their towels after using them for a bath or shower will let them air-dry and be ready for their next use. This helps keep the floor and sink clean and also cuts down on your laundry load.
When you do have to do a complete bathroom cleaning, you can usually divide this task into 3 styles of cleaning, seasonal, weekly and daily. The amount of work for these three varies and if you stick to a routine, it will make all three of them quicker and less of a chore.
The seasonal bathroom cleaning is the most involved and you should try to do this through cleaning about 4 times a year. This is a complete ceiling to floor cleaning and involves removing the shower curtain, rugs and curtains for a good cleaning as well. The room should be completely mopped, dusted, scrubbed and polished and any loose grout or caulking around the tub of sink replaced. If you do this two or three times a year, this will make the other more frequent cleanings easier and quicker.
The weekly bathroom cleaning is a very quick affair and involves scrubbing the sink, tub and tiles. You should also wipe down the toilet, switch plate and faucet with a pre-moistened cloth to help reduce bacteria and germs as these are areas that most of the family will touch on a visit to the bathroom. This is also a good time to clean the toilet rim and bowl with a liquid cleaner and a brush. Finally, check to see if the tissues or toilet paper need changing and check the status of the bath towels as well to see if they need to be laundered. As you get into the routine of this weekly bathroom cleaning, you should be able to do the entire list in less than 15 minutes.
The daily bathroom cleaning is even easier and the task list includes wiping down the toilet seat, toilet rim, sink and faucet with a pre-moistened cloth. Start with the cleanest area first, like the faucet, and work up to the dirtiest. This way you won’t be transferring germs from a dirty area to a cleaner area. Taking the time to do this periodic cleaning can save you hours of bathroom cleaning time each year.
