Glory House Catering takes home a consecutive Blue Ribbon from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2009. The first Blue Ribbon was awarded to Glory House last year in 2008. The process of winning begins with the Greater Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce. Small businesses from Irving are chosen by the chamber to submit an application for the national award. Many other Chambers of Commerce throughout the U.S. also nominate small businesses in their cities to apply for the national award. The U.S. Chamber selects 56 applicants as the "cream of the crop" to award a Blue Ribbon.
From the 56 Blue Ribbon winners, 7 applicants are chosen based on location in the U.S. to move on to a Regional Award. From the seven regional finalists, only on small business is crowned the overall national winner.
The Blue Ribbon Small Business Award, sponsored by Sam's Club, was designed to honor businesses that excel in a variety of selection criteria, including financial performance and business history, staff training and motivation, community involvement, customer service, and business planning. The award is part of the Chamber's Small Business of the Year selection process.
"Winners of the Blue Ribbon Small Business Award represent the country's finest small business success stories," said Tom Donohue, U.S. Chamber of Commerce president and CEO. "Small businesses are the backbone of America's economy, representing more than 99% of all employers, creating three-fourths of all new jobs, and accounting for more than one-half of the nation's gross domestic product."
