North Dallas Printer and Marketing Services Provider Upgrades Digital Equipment (Dallas, TX)

Sir Speedy North Dallas, one of Dallas' leading digital printing facilities is pleased to announce the addition of an Ikon 1050 to it's lineup of digital output equipment. The Ikon 1050 is a black and white digital machine capable of high-speed scanning from a client's original, can save that file to .tif or .pdf file for archiving, then output the document at 105 copies per minute.

Productivity Improvements and Faster Turnaround Times

Digital pressroom manager, Preston Crum, had this to say about the new addition, “The Ikon 1050 will allow us to cut production time on manuals and other black and white documents by 50%. This means that our customers will have their documents just that much faster now. While the previous equipment produced a very high quality screen and sharp fonts, the output rate was really putting a damper on our productivity. Now, jobs that were taking 24-48 hours can typically be finished the same day. We expect this to have a very positive impact on our digital business.”

The Ikon is designed to be a high volume digital copier. Specifically this means that the machine can be loaded with an enormous volume of blank stock and the holding bin for finished copies holds an equal volume of paper. This means that an operator can load the machine, initiate the job, then walk away from it until the job is finished, in most cases. The operator can move on to other tasks while the job is running, increasing employee productivity, shortening turnaround times, and increasing overall profitability for the shop.

Networked Implementation and Hi-Speed Scanning Capability

The recent acquisition is networked, of course, meaning that any of our pre-press staff can preflite, impose, and otherwise prepare a file for output from any computer in the house. That file can then be “ripped” from any computer which means the job file is sent directly to the copier's controlling server where it enters a job que and awaits its' turn for output.

The 1050's high-speed scanning capability means that a client who's unable to locate the original document file can bring us a good quality copy of that document and we can work from that. The document is placed in the scanner, each page is scanned separately and saved to one of several file formats. The cost for this process is reasonable and far less than re-creating the lost document file! The stored pdf file can be OCR'd in a separate process so that the document can be edited and searched much like you might a Word file.

Preston Crum said, “we don't get that many hard-copy documents to work from anymore. I'd say 90% or better of our work comes from a customer originated document file. But it's nice to know that the one time your best account calls and needs something that afternoon with only a hard-copy to work from, we can deliver without breaking a sweat.”
